Shopping for Charity

Nicole Lang
Shopping can be more than just spending money. Shopping can also mean giving... sounds crazy, right? Quite a few groups have offered shoes, t-shirts, etc., with proceeds going to charity. Feel better by purchasing a fashionable item that also helps someone else. Here are a few products that will help others and make you happy by providing a nice piece of clothing/shoes.

TOMS Shoes

Founded by Blake Mycoskie after seeing children in Argentina without shoes, TOMS shoes was created. TOMS donates 1 pair of shoes for each pair purchased. This movement is called the "One for One" movement and is truly ingenious. TOMS shoes offer a wide variety but all are canvas. Some flat, some wedges but all comfortable and fashion forward.

Join(RED)

Many partners make the up the (RED) movement. Every time you purchase a product from this joint grouping a donation is made to the group fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. Considering how many children die from AIDS in Africa this is certainly a great fund to contribute to.

GAP is a (RED) partner and their line of (RED) inspired clothing is both comfortable and fashionable. GAP produces T-Shirts that are designed by artists and are both fun and fashionable.

LIVESTRONG

LIVESTRONG is the movement started by Lance Armstrong to help with cancer. It is meant to help research, treatment and even survivor programs. Teaming up with Nike, LIVESTRONG has become a very popular clothing line with proceeds going to the LIVESTRONG charity. The yellow color is bold and easily recognized. With everything from T-Shirts to bracelets, this movement is certainly fashionable and for a rather inexpensive price you can help those suffering from cancer and the ones that love them.

Warriors In Pink

In partnership with the Koman Foundation, Ford teams up and creates a special line of clothing with 100% of the net proceeds going to the Koman Foundation. These shirts show that women can be tough. Two women's faces make up wings and with warrior paint on their faces, this clothing line is a perfect way to show toughness while showing support.

So do some good while being fashion forward. Giving to charity will never go out of style. There are plenty of companies in partnerships with charities making clothing and shoes and products of all sorts. Next time you are shopping, consider doing so while helping a child, an adult, an animal or even the environment. Whatever you charity of choice there is sure to be an article of clothing that will go towards helping it. What are you waiting for, get shopping!
