Festive Season

Jenny Jones
Winnipeg is blessed with the perfect weather to create the dream of a winter wonderland Christmas. On a good frost filled morning the trees take on a magical wonderful look of white Christmas and it's easy to imagine or create frosty the snowman. With the natural setting, the only thing that remains to round off the perfect scene is a Christmas tree.

Christmas trees are a central icon of the festive season. It is the focal point in the home because that's where jolly old Santa Claus leaves all the gifts for good little boys and girls. Families make decorating the Christmas tree into an activity that brings them together making this a communal event where memories are created and stored for posterity. Getting the perfect tree or close to that is very important to many people including those of us in Winnipeg.

Some folks get their Christmas trees form the same dealer year after year. In Winnipeg, you have the choice of buying real, artificial or stylistic Christmas trees or you can choose to get your chainsaw and do it like the folks did back in the old days, go out on the farm and cut your tree down like a man or woman. Winnipeg offers all the varieties you can think of.

If you are that person who prides yourself on getting just the perfect Christmas tree then you will not be disappointed by the variety of Christmas trees available in the city of Winnipeg with more than its share of beautiful trees on specialty Christmas tree farms.

Two or three weeks before Christmas Day, many of the big farms set up temporary market places around the city to provide access to ready cut trees.

If you are not crazy about parading in the cold nor want to deal with falling pine needles then the Downtown Bay store is perhaps the best and most accessible place to find just the right artificial tree for your taste. They have already set up their Christmas Street in the store with all kinds of beautifully decorated trees. The price may be a little steeper than your garden variety but you will be happy with the quality they offer. And a tree from the Bay will last you for as long as you want until you're ready to recycle it to your favorite charity for some other family to enjoy. Another great place to shop for an artificial tree is the Magic of Christmas Store in Kildonan Shopping Mall at 1555 Regent Avenue West.
