Shopping for Craft Deals

Amy Brantley
Crafts can be hours of fun for children and adults. Unfortunately, crafts can also cost a lot of money. It's not uncommon for craft kits to cost over $50. Purchasing supplies separately can be even more expensive. Thankfully, there are ways to save money on craft deals, it all begins with knowing where and how to shop.

Clearance Sections of Craft Websites

There are so many great craft websites. Whether you're into bead work, cross stitch or crochet, you can find a website that specializes in the supplies you'll need. While these sites can often be expensive, it pays to visit these sites and look through their clearance or sale items. You can usually find great deals on seasonal items for holiday crafts, but you can also find kits that have been discontinued to make room for new designs. Either way, the clearance section can be an inexpensive way to fuel your craft obsession.

eBay

eBay is one of the best places to find deals on craft supplies. You'll find everything you could possibly need, not matter what project you're working on. There are however some tips you should follow when shopping for individual supplies. First of all, if you haven't seen the product in person, be careful about choosing colors. Colors can look different in person than they do online. Also, be careful of high shipping costs. Kits can also be found on eBay. After looking through one of your favorite craft catalogs, log-on to eBay and search for some of the kits you like the looks of. Chances are you'll find a much better deal.

Yard Sales, Thrift Stores and Flea Markets

If you want crafts supplies that are dirt cheap, these are the places you need to visit. People often clean out their craft rooms after getting tired of a certain craft or when they've given up crafting completely. Many of these people aren't looking to make money, they just want to get rid of the items. It's not uncommon to find supplies for as little as $0.25. If you're purchasing a lot of supplies, you can also haggle for even better deals. One tip to remember when purchasing craft kits is to check and see if they have been started. People often start crafts and never finish them. Of course, you may be able to score an awesome deal on an expensive kit that has been partially finished.

These are great suggestions. Some of the older kits are much nicer than the newer ones...they are more complete and the contents are of better quality. But, as you mentioned do check to make sure all of the contents are there.

Good advice, I find most craft stuff reasonable at Goodwill ad ARC stores.

I love a bargain and I am a pack rat when it comes to crafting! I don't always think of E-bay for craft items. Other options are Artfire and Etsy too
