The GSA is the agency that disposes of surplus or seized government property. They have a few other duties, but the auctions are the most interesting. The GSA auctions everything from land, to cars, to seized pots and pans. To bid, you simply must go to www.gsa.gov and click on the link to the citizens' page. It might take a little time to navigate, but you should be able to link to the auctions for all property the federal government has for sale in your area.
There are a few strings attached to this great find. Although the prices for some things are so low that they could be criminal, the window for paying for the merchandise and transporting it is very small. Some auctions require immediate pick-up, while others will make arrangements with the winning bidder. Also, all items are sold as is, and some haven't even been tested for functionality. Some auctions allow for viewing before buying, but most don't. Some of the items don't have pictures either.
The GSA also requires that all buyers register with their service. A credit card is mandatory, because it is used to check identity. The GSA does now send receipts via email. Don't forget it when you go to pick up your item. You can't leave the premises with the merchandise without a receipt.
One of the most unique finds on the site is the FEMA trailers for sale. For a couple thousand dollars, you can have one of your very own. They are being sold as is, but some have a full list of know faults. Also on the site are Harleys, trucks, computers, and digital cameras.
As with any auction, do read the description completely to be sure of what you get. In the auctions that have no description, surprises should be expected. There are no refunds, and you must remember to register before you can bid.
Take a look around the GAS auctions; you never know what you'll find. Who knows, you might find the house of your dreams or the computer that you've been coveting. From lighthouses to silver spoons, they've got it all. Check it out to see if there is something at the GSA for you. Happy bidding!
