Shopping for a PC Headset with Microphone

M. Sottosanti
While my daughter was attending college overseas, keeping in touch through Skype was the only way to keep communication costs down, making it all the more necessary to find a good quality, yet affordable, PC headset with microphone.

I knew absolutely nothing about PC headsets, so I started my shopping venture from scratch at my local Wal-Mart in Tucson, Arizona. I was surprised to find a small selection of headsets in the electronic department, given that talking through the Internet seems to be so popular these days. However, there does seem to be a much wider selection of headsets on Walmart.com, so shoppers looking for a wider variety of projects might want to turn to the Internet rather than the big box store.

I did not want to wait for the product to be shipped, so I stuck with my intention to do an in-store purchase and dealt with the small selection. I chose the least expensive model on display, a Logitech Clear Chat Stereo PC Headset with Rotating Microphone (Model #: 981-000296), which was nearly $30.00 That was much more than I had intended to pay, but is nevertheless much cheaper than paying for expensive international calls to my daughter.

Even though I chose the cheapest model the store had in stock, I was by no means disappointed by my purchase. The headset and microphone work perfectly with Skype. I never have a problem hearing my daughter speak and vice versa, except of course when the Internet connection is faltering. Voices are heard very clearly and distinctly. The microphone rotates to adjust for better performance depending on each person's individual needs and it is also a noise canceling microphone, which minimizes background noise. The headset works so well that I even use it to listen to music, as the sound quality is excellent, much better than previous earphones I've used. Compared to cheaper models of headsets, this Logitech Clear Chat Stereo PC headset has convenient in-line volume and mute controls.

Along with being ideal for voice and video chat and listening to music, the Logitech Clear Chat Stereo PC headset is also perfect for playing PC games and watching movies. The headband itself is lightweight and very comfortable to wear and it is adjustable.

This Logitech Clear Chat Stereo PC headset also works great with Windows Live, Yahoo, AOL's Instant Message (AIM) and all other popular internet voice chat applications. It is for all Windows computers and doesn't work with Apple computers.

The Logitech Clear Chat Stereo PC headset is so easy to install. Just plug it into the little round microphone hole (jack) of your computer and you're ready to go. This hole (jack) is easy to find on your computer, as it usually has a picture of a headset below it.

Looking through Walmart.com, I've noticed that some PC headsets cost hundreds of dollars. If you, like me, are just in need of a budget headset to keep in touch with loved ones, then the Logitech Clear Chat Stereo PC Headset will work fine. There's no need to break the bank on this one.

This Logitech Clear Chat Stereo PC headset comes with a user guide and save the packaging, as it has a 2 year limited warranty.

My source is the packaging from my purchase of the Logitech Clear Chat Stereo PC headset.
