So Christmas is just around the corner. If you are like most people you will be waking up at the crack of dawn to catch all of the latest sales and bargains. Whether it's a new dvd player, televising or ipod almost every store in the world will have their Christmas sales in high gear. But if money is tight at your house, like it is at mine, you want to do everything you can to get the most out of your money. Here are a few tips to get you start this holiday season.

Do your homework. This is without a doubt the most important thing you can do. Find out early what the sells are going to be and where. Most stores have a sales book that you can find in the local paper a few days before Black Friday. Check online also for what deals will be available. Often their are sales that you can find online that are not in stores.

These online deals are great, because the deal is better than you can find in a store and you will be able to shop from the comfort of your home. Also make sure to compare prices. If you know that there is a particular item that you want don't just settle for the first sale price you see. Look around and compare prices. You'll be surprised to learn that you can often beat that price. Or ask the store if they compare prices. Many stores will match the sale price of their competitors.

Time your shopping. A key to shopping around the holidays is to plan when you will do your shopping. This is especially the case around Black Friday. You need to know what item you want to buy and what time to be at the appropriate store to get it. Many stores have sales for only certain hours on Black Friday. In many cases if you show up after 11:00 am, the best deals are no longer valid, or these items are sold out. You'll need to prioritize if you have more than one big item you need to purchase. Timing is essential if you want to make the most of your money during the holiday's.

Have a plan. This is another biggie. So many people leave the house with no plan at all. If you leave the house without a plan, the mall will have one for you. Every where you turn there will be opportunities to sign up or use a credit card. Have a budget and a specific plan for what you will buy and for whom. Also remember it is ok to say no. If you're not sure about a certain purchase, don't make it. You can always go back later; the item will usually still be there!

Being wise and making the most of your money around the holidays is not always easy. With so many temptations even the strongest of people can make bad decisions. Have a plan, time your shopping and do your homework. You will get the most for your money and you will be much happier. Don't forget, live still goes on after Christmas.
