Shopping for a Toaster Oven

Countertop Toaster Oven

Delano S
My DeLonghi toaster oven of over 5 yrs finally decided it does not want to bake or toast for me anymore. I can't complain because it worked for so long and worked so faithfully. To the credit of DeLonghi I was given a few warning signs that all was not well, a few months earlier, the toaster part of it, quit shutting off when the toast was complete. I did have time to prepare for its fate. I guess a proper disposal was in order but as soon as the Delonghi toaster kicked the bucket I was on the market for a new oven.
My needs when i purchased the DeLonghi compared to now are a little bit different. Now, a bigger oven would be nice along with stainless steel. So off I went to see what was in stores, and what would fit into my budget. I had to ask myself before i jumped head first, what is my toaster used for these days, pizzas, toast, baking, muffins, warming, and even storage at times, so the most important things for me would be size and price.
Not being in the market for such a long time I decided to check the internet to see what prices I would be facing, do some research and check the reviews to learn from the mistakes of others. Amazon normally sells everything along with having reviews of the products.
So off i went to htp://www.amazon.com into the small appliance section to look for toaster ovens. Did not gather that much information from there so I went to bizrate site http://www.bizrate.com/toasterovens/ to see what they had on toasters and they did not have as much information as I expected neither did pricegrabber http://reviews.pricegrabber.com/toaster-ovens/p/527/st=category/ or nextag http://www.nextag.com/Ovens--zz2700448zB4z5---html. But what I did get was my expected price range to work with anything under $60 would just about right, but they were a bunch of them under $40, however with the size I was looking at I expected something in the $50 range.
So off I went shopping for my new toaster oven, surprisingly the stores did not have much variety and some of the items were not in stock with only the display item being in the store. Apparently either everyone toaster died recently or this just is not the time when retailers sell of small appliances in abundance, or new models are due to be out. So out of the few that remained available the one that best suited me was the Black and Decker Digital Convection Oven.
The Black and Decker countertop convection oven is one of the bigger oven and toaster with a 12" pizza capacity, it is fully digital with push buttons, large digital display.
The packing is pretty simple easy to unpack, it opened up from the top and covered in plastic, you have to remove the trays from around the oven before you you can try to take the toaster oven out of the box. When you get the toaster oven out of the box, you have to take the protective tape off of the oven, along with the card display that covers the glass door. The black and decker convection countertop oven requires a plug with an earth connection. It is always recommended to read the manual before you start using appliances so I took some time
out to read the book.

Here is a summary list of the features:
silver, buttons,
display for the temperature and cook time,
convection.
timer
frozen
bagels
toast
broil
stores last cook time set
beeps when it reaches set temperature

So now my first test, before I baked or toasted anything in the toaster oven, I had to try it out first just to see how it heats up and works, the toaster oven did give off an odor, but since I read the manual I was prepared for that. After reaching the temperature it beeped, so I had a good test. Then I tested the convection heating, and that worked good as well. So my new Black and Decker Convection Countertop Toaster Oven is good to go. My only problem with the toaster oven is that when the oven is not in use the display is not used to display the time. So next time Black and Decker engineers make good use of the display and add a clock. But overallI give it an A-.
