ShopRite Sliced Bacon

Recently, I had the opportunity to eat ShopRite Sliced Bacon for the first time and I'm glad I had the opportunity. Like every other ShopRite product I've eaten, this bacon is not only reasonably priced, but it is quite tasty and of high quality.

Presented here, as a service to the consumer at large, is an article which reviews and examines ShopRite Sliced Bacon.

Size
The net weight of the standard sized package of ShopRite Sliced Bacon is 16 ounces. The package contains 10 two slice servings.

This serving size seems small to me. Normally, I eat roughly six slices in one serving.

Price
The regular retail price charged for one 16 ounce package of ShopRite Sliced Bacon at Hartford, Connecticut area ShopRite Supermarkets is approximately $3.99. This price is significantly lower than that of name brand varieties of bacon.

Texture / Consistency
This bacon features a pretty firm and neat texture. When I run a sharp knife down the width of the bacon, to cut the pieces in half for easier frying, the bacon holds together and does not fall apart.

There is a good ratio of fat to meat in this bacon and it frys and bakes pretty evenly. The mouth feel offered by this product is quite pleasing.

ShopRite Sliced Bacon contains 90 calories, with 70 calories from fat, per two slice serving. This flavorful bacon also contains 2.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams polyunsaturated fat, 7 grams total fat, 15 mg of cholesterol, 320 mg of sodium, 0 grams total carbohydrates, 0 grams of dietary fiber, 0 grams of sugars and 5 grams of protein, per two slice serving.

Taste / Flavor
Within the space of three days recently, I consumed an entire package of ShopRite Sliced Bacon. Some of it, I pan - fried, but most of it, I baked in the oven, in a metal baking dish. As a veteran restaurant cook, I have learned that cooking bacon in the oven is an excellent method of cooking this meat. Most restaurants that I have worked at cook their bacon in the oven.

Whether it is pan fried or baked in the oven, ShopRite Sliced Bacon tastes great. Golden brown and deep red in hue when cooked, this bacon tastes so good, it is hard to stop eating it once you have started. So far, I have eaten this delicious bacon plain, in BLTs, peanut butter and bacon sandwiches and with eggs. Its flavor every time was very appealing. In my humble opinion, this bacon is definitely just as good as most higher priced name brands of bacon.

On a flavor scale of one through ten, I would assign this product a rating of 9.25.

Packaging
ShopRite Sliced Bacon is packaged in a clear plastic standard type bacon pouch. The package is fairly easy to open and it should be wrapped after being opened. A very basic yellow and black front label adorns the front of the package and all pertinent ingredient and nutritional information is listed on the rear label.

Overall Rating
ShopRite store brand products are known for being high quality, reasonably priced items. This bacon is no exxception.

Nothing fancy here, just good old fashioned bacon that cooks easily and tastes great. Available at ShopRite Supermarkets on America's east coat, ShopRite Sliced Bacon is a recommended item.
