Short a few credits or dollars for your college degree? There is a way to save time and money. Check out the college level examination program also known as the CLEP test! The CLEP is a general knowledge test in a specific area that allows you to earn undergraduate college credits without having to sit through a boring class. The test is given in multiple choice formats and is scored on a scale of 20 to 80, with 50 generally being a passing score. Hundreds of students every year take these time saving tests.

There are 34 CLEP test available to speed up your college degree ranging from algebra, history, humanities and computer applications. A complete listing and study guide information can be found here. You can also visit your local library to find additional study guides. The cost of the test runs from 55.00 to 75.00 depending on the school where you are taking it, plus study guide materials. This test is offered free to military service members.

Follow these simple steps to find out if the CLEP test will work for you. First, check with your college advisor to confirm that your school does accept the CLEP. Most colleges do and also offer the testing on their campus. Next, review the list of tests and see which ones would benefit you and find out the dates the tests are offered. Some colleges offer them only a certain times of the year so it is important to find out right away. Third, study, study, study! There are a ton of books and websites that offer study material. Make sure you know the percentage of correct answers that must be given in order to receive a passing score. It is important to note that while the test does give you college credit it does not give a grade; it is simply pass or fail. If you don't pass the test you must wait 6 month before you can take it again. Finally, sign up and take the test. The test is timed so make sure you are not late. Get a good night sleep the night before and bring proper identification with you.

Compared to the cost of tuition the CLEP is a win, win situation. By finding several subjects that you can test out of, you will save hundreds of dollars in tuition and books and get a faster start on your career. Ready? Go Study!
