Short Poems for Black History Month

Maybe This Time it Will Be Different

Sofia
You get the shortest month
Black History Month
Yet they resent you
Black History Month
And they get every other month
Black History Month
Your roots were ripped
Black History Month
Maybe they will ALL apologize this
Black History Month

Who is "THEY"?!!! I'm fairly certain that this month of pride and remembrance was set aside to celebrate the "darker brother" (Langston Hughes) -not to chastise the white one. February was chosen by Carter G. Woodson (know him?) because the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln are found there. (Know them?) So before you write more gut-wrenching, woe is me poetry, get your facts straight. Don't try to turn this time of honor into another wrong-doing and blame an entire race for it. Now you apologize.

Black hstory month is a good month, but sometimes is taken in a wrong content. Our anscestors struggled not us and we need to remember and thank them and stop blaming those who wronged them and forgive and focus on today but always remember our past
