Short, Smart, Savvy, Senior Hairstyles for Today's Women

Shirley Norling
I'm constantly looking for tips and hairstyles for this thin fine "senior" hair of mine. I have pretty much had this type of hair most of my life so I totally understand the senior lady who may experiencing these same issues. As we age, like everything else about our body, our hair goes through change also. It may become thinner, drier and just plain harder to manage. So my advice for you senior gals out there, keep those hairstyles short and sweet. You will find that in most cases it will a lot easier to take care of. Here are some short hairstyles that I recommend for the fashion savvy senior lady.

1.The Curly Permed Look: Cut it short and get a permanent, preferably one with lots of curl. I love this wash and wear look. It's so easy to care for. All you need to do is shampoo, condition, towel dry, work in your favorite mousse or styling gel and let it air dry. If you prefer, when it's completely dry, you may want to run a large tooth comb or hair pick through it for a more relaxed look. Spritz with a little hairspray if desired and your all set for the day. There's usually no touch-ups that need to be done throughout the day to keep this short hairstyle looking its best.

2. Boy Cut: You may want some short wispy bangs to frame your face with this cute, short-all-around hairstyle. For added body you may want to blow dry it or scrunch in some styling gel and a couple drops of hair serum for some shine and sleekness and just let it air dry. This is a great short hairstyle for any type of hair the senior lady has.

3. Soft, Wispy, Pixie Cut: Pieces left longer around the perimeter for added softness and femininity give this hairstyle a smart look. To achieve this look, apply mousse or hair gel and blow dry your hair completely using your fingers to lift and sculpt. With a small curling iron, gently curl pieces of hair. Use a small amount of texturizing paste to separate and define the hair. Finish the style with hairspray for hold. This is a very cute style for the smart senior gal.

4. "Hip" Short Cut: This haircut features short layers all around with longer pieces razored around the ears to make it soft and sexy. This easy care, easy wear style just needs a little mousse and your blow dryer to completely dry the hair. Using a long paddle brush smooth hair down in place, tease hair at the crown for more lift if desired and spray finished style with hairspray.

5. Ultra Short Cut: This haircut is perfect for fine thin hair that many of us seniors seem to have. The tapered cut offers the best of both worlds: volume on the top and short in the back. Another very easy care, easy wear style for the senior ladies.

To help our senior ladies retain these smart short hairstyles, they should be sure and use the right shampoos, conditioners and styling products for their hair type weather it's dry, color-treated, thin & fine etc. They will get the best results by using the correct hair products.

I agree with the pixie. In this heat and humidity, as long as it's short I'm for it!

The pixie cut, #3, is especially huge now here in South Korea. Even the boys are getting it!
