Short Summary of the Book of Exodus

Randy Jones
Exodus: In this book Moses who being the author of the Pentateuch has his life broken down in forty year increments.

The first forty years consist of his birth and being raised in Pharaoh's palace.

His second forty years were spent in the Midian Desert and in this period he witnessed the Angel of God speak through a burning bush which was part of his calling.

His calling lead him back to Egypt to announce deliverance for Israel which lead to a contest with Pharaoh to include the ten plagues in Egypt the last leading to the Institution of Passover.

Later a faith strong Moses followed God's instruction to part the Red Sea for the children of Israel to cross over safely from Pharaoh's army. With the arrival of Moses and the children of Israel to Mount Sinai this brought forth the Ten Commandments and Social Legislation to the multitude. As Moses kept the law of God his journey continued with the building of the Tabernacle which would be filled with the Glory of God. Moses has been credited with Authorship of Exodus, with the time frame being between 1440 and 1400 B.C. The title Exodus gives explaination to the book, which means "departure". This came at a time the Israelites were coming out from under oppression from Egypt.
