Short Summary of the Book of Ezra

Ezra: The Book of Ezra is devoted to events happening in the land of Israel at the time of the return from Babylonian captivity. The book of Ezra covers a period of approximately one century, beginning in 538 B.C. The emphasis in Ezra is the rebuilding of the Temple. The book contains extensive genealogical records, This was for the purpose of establishing the claims to the priesthood on the part of the descendants of Aaron. The book of Ezra records hope, and restoration to those that had sinned against God. The book of Ezra continues the remnant theme throughout the Old Testament of each time God sends a judgment there is always a remnant left if for no other reason than to just document the sin, the judgment, and the restoration.
