Short Term Effects of Ritalin

Ann Olson
Ritalin is a powerful and often misused drug, intended to help treat people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) manage their behaviors. Obtaining Ritalin illegally to get "high" is made easier by numerous non-U.S. based online pharmacies. Its misuse is staggering. Unfortunately, Ritalin's short term effects occur frequently and have severe consequences.

Don't think you're at risk? You could be risking your health by taking one Ritalin tablet. Here are some of Ritalin's short term effects.

Short Term Effects: Nausea or Vomiting
Ritalin stimulates the central nervous system, causing nausea or vomiting. This is caused by vertigo, a common side effect of taking Ritalin improperly.

Short Term Effects: Heart Issues
Ritalin aggravates heart issues. Dangerous short term effects include a rapid heart beat, abnormal heart palpitations, and an increase in blood pressure. According to Drugs.com, these side effects are worsened if you have a congenital heart defect.

Short Term Effects: Itching or Prickly Feeling on the Skin
Did you see the scene in Oldboy where Dae-Su imagined seeing ants coming out of his skin? If you take Ritalin, you may experience the same sensations. Feelings range from mild itching and a "prickly" feeling to the sensation of bugs on your skin. Many Ritalin users have numerous skin rashes because they cannot stop itching themselves.

Short Term Effects: Anorexia
No, this isn't the Karen Carpenter type of Anorexia. Anorexia by itself refers to a complete loss of appetite - Anorexia Nervosa is the name of the disease.

Want to get skinny? Anorexia and moderate weight loss are common short term effects of Ritalin. If you continue to abuse it you may become malnourished or emaciated. It's great if you don't mind looking like a meth user high on speed; not so great if you don't want to resemble a zombie.

Short Term Effects: Paranoia
Paranoia is a serious short term effect of Ritalin, caused by the manipulation of the central nervous system. You may feel" foil hat" paranoid or slightly anxious. Sometimes anxiety is so severe to require hospitalization, leading to another pleasant side effect: psychosis.

Short Term Effects: Withdrawal
Ritalin also causes dependence. Ritalin users have to increase their dosage to have the same high, and a dependence develops, hooking them instantly. If you stop taking Ritalin for a couple of days, painful short term effects pop up, including bad headaches, a physical need to have more Ritalin, an inability to function, and severe depression.

Do You Have a Ritalin Addiction?
Ritalin causes numerous short term effects, even if it is your first hit. Although it seems alluring to try the legal "cocaine", so to speak, Ritalin's short term effects are less than unpleasant. Is it really worth it?
