Shots Fired in Southwest Oak Cliff area of Dallas

Robert Edwards
Neighbors were awaken early this Thursday morning around 3 a.m. by an exchange of gunfire near the vicinity of South Hampton Rd. and Mark Trail Way in the area of Southwest Oak Cliff Dallas, Texas.

A series of about 15 shots were fired which rang in the silence of the night which ranged in 9mm to .38 calibers, these weapons could have been either fired at semi-automatic or automatic speeds considering the spacing of the gunfire were about 1-2 seconds apart from each other.

In recent months, there has been turmoil over certain "gang territories" held by some of the city's major gang population in the area. Although, it is unclear if this was in fact gang related.

People of this and other surrounding areas of Dallas have been on their guard in recent weeks. One neighbor said: "This is getting out of control and has to be stopped before one of use gets seriously hurt.

"This part of the city has never been this bad before, it is usually very quiet."

Police were dispatched to the scene about 15 minutes from when the gun shots were first fired and reported. There has not been any reports of fatality, property damage or bodily harm. With no key witnesses in this case, this random act of firearm violence remains inconclusive.

Gun violence in Dallas needs to be inspected and revamped more so now than ever before in the past. With gang members on the rise, it is clear to this reporter why the city is #2 on America's Crime List. Dallas authorities need to come up with better strategies on finding and ultimately prosecuting weapons offenders.

been in north oak cliff since christmas (3 months)....ghetto birds once a month, gun shots ringing out in the night, about the same...too my surprise, jefferson and davis street, west of I-35 lined up and down with lively shops...it looks like Mexico City. I mean that in a good way. Capitalism is alive and well. An upscale couple of blocks, on Bishop, between the two lower income shops of davis and jefferson, gives the yuppies a place to go. If you aren't a chicken, are a little bit "aware" of your surroundings, believe in the 2nd ammendment (at times)...it's a pretty good place to live. Fiesta grocery store...go in and buy the exact same basic foodstuffs that you would buy at a Tom Thumb in Plano, and your bill will be more then 1/3 cheaper. Sometimes closer to HALF!!! Some people like the suburbs. Gives them the illusion of safety. Truth be known, a home invasion down in Oak Cliff is probably pretty rare, because the would-be home invaders KNOW they'll be facing someone who
