Should AIG Have to Repay Bonuses Paid with Bailout Money?

Yes, I do believe AIG should be forced to return bonuses paid with federal bailout money. The American citizens were forced to pay this bailout, and all it does is go into the pockets of people who are already rich, taking money from people who need it the most. You don't steal from someone and expect that when you're caught to not have to pay it back. That's exactly what the AIG executives are doing, they're taking money from citizens not to help their company, not even help the people, but to fill their pockets so they can get a jet to fly to congress to get yet another bailout.

These people asking for money that they don't need, and they don't deserve. If their companyis going down, the taxpayers should not have to pay to keep them from going bankrupt. It is not our job to make sure that a big company keeps money flowing into their pockets. It's AIG's CEO's job to make sure that AIG stays afloat, that's what he's paid for. As Congress and the Obama Administration consider legislation to limit bonuses at American International Group (AIG: 1.23, -0.36, -22.64%), documents obtained by FOX Business show AIG bonuses and other compensation were reviewed and changed by officials at the Treasury Department and Federal Reserve in November, when the Treasury made its first investment of taxpayer funds - $40 billion - in the company. - quoted from FOX

It's quite obvious that American taxpayers are against the AIG bonus.

The payouts to executives appear to have helped put a face on the economic struggles the country faces, and the anger targeting AIG is palpable. Death threats have been pouring in since the brouhaha broke, the company said, and its workers are taking no chances. "It's scary," one executive said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he feared retribution. "People are very, very nervous for their security."Corporate officials advised employees in a memo posted on Gawker.com to avoid wearing the company logo, in an effort to keep from drawing attention. Workers were also urged to travel in pairs at night and park in well-lit areas. (quoted from Yahoo! News)

The AIG executives simply do not deserve this money, especially since it's coming from the pockets of the taxpayers. We don't get bailouts, why should AIG? It's like getting paid to have a company tank. The AIG executives should give back every single dime of money they have, and get fired. They lived the high life for too long.
