Should You Assemble a Model or Buy One that is Already Built

Years ago, most of the scale models I saw were not yet assembled. This means you had to do it yourself and to do that, you had to buy the glue and paint because this is sold separately. But when I go to a hobby store now, there are models that are already painted and assembled which begs the question, should you buy a kit or settle for one that has already been made?

To answer that question, there are a lot of things to consider and at the top of the list is the price. You can buy a model kit for less than $10. This is usually cheaper than the assembled model but again this depends on the brand.

For the sake of argument, let's say the kit is cheaper. If you add paint and glue with that, it is possible that the total cost is already the price of an assembled model. But price should not be an issue if you have money to spare and would like a challenge and build something from scratch.

On the other hand, if you are not that confident like other scale modelers who are able to do a pretty good job, you are probably better of buying something that was already made at the factory.

The only disadvantage I see of buying an assembled kit is that you can't make any changes when you buy it from the store. Once you buy it, you take it out of the box and simply add this to your collection.

This is different from a kit that since you have the option of using 2 or 3 decals that comes with the kit and the choice of what color to paint the model.

So should you assemble a model or buy one? That is something you have to ask yourself. If I had it my way, I would still make it myself. I feel good working at it for hours and then seeing the finished product.

We can buy such scale models in hobby shops or online. One website you can check out is www.mytoycabinet.com that offers customers the chance to buy a model that is already built or one that has to be assembled from the box.

If you are like me, chances are the first model you buy won't be the last. If you have the time and money to spare, you will get another one and then expand your existing model collection.
