Bottled Water Can Be Pricey
There is no doubt that bottled water can be quite pricey. In fact, many even say that the price of water is more expensive than the price of gas. Many go to the extreme of making sure that they only buy the most expensive water bottles that they can find because they feel that it tastes better. While it is definitely possible that certain types of water do taste better than others, is a slight difference in taste worth spending extra money over? If you were to keep track of the amount that you spend on bottled water for just a few months, you would be likely to see how much it can add up.
Bottled Water Is Not Safer
A lot of people believe that bottled water is a lot safer than tap water. In reality, this is not the case at all. In fact, at one point 20/20 sent different water bottle samples and a New York City tap water sample to a microbiologist to see if there was any difference in the quality of water. One of the main things that the water samples were tested for was E. Coli. The microbiologist found that there was absolutely no difference between the bottled water and tap water. While this would certainly not be true if you lived in a third world country, it is believed to be true for just about anyone who lives in the United States.
Bottled Water Labels Can Be Deceiving
Most bottled water labels will lead you to believe that bottled water comes from very clean, refreshing areas in the mountains surrounded by beautiful lakes. In reality, the beautiful lakes that are featured on a bottle of water do not exist. It is important to make sure that you read the bottled water label if you really want to know where a certain type of water comes from. I would have never known that Deer Park bottled water comes from a town called Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania, which is right over the bridge from my own hometown, if I had not read the label. For all you know, the bottled water which you are drinking could be coming from your own hometown.
Bottled Water is Often Tap Water
Pepsi Co. has admitted that its bottled water, Aquafina, is actually tap water. Coca Cola has admitted that its bottled water, Dasani, is also tap water. While you may think that you are paying for "special" water, the truth is that you are often only paying for expensive tap water. As previously mentioned, water bottle labels can be really deceiving. While you may think that the bottled water which you are purchasing is fresh spring water, it usually is not.
Will You Stop Buying Bottled Water?
Despite all of the reasons not to buy bottled water, many of us will continue to do so. One of the main reasons that we tend to drink water bottles is because it offers the added convenience of not having to wash glasses every time that you want to drink water. If the main reason that you have decided to drink bottled water in the first place is because your own tap water does not taste very good and you want to save money, you may want to consider investing in a filter for your tap water. This can help you enjoy the taste of your own tap water and eliminate the need that you have for bottled water.
