Should You Buy Your Next PC Game at Direct2Drive?

Robert Caldwell
Over the years people have become more accustomed to making purchases of digital products online and then downloading the product. This has helped make Direct2Drive one of the major websites go to for purchasing PC games online. Using Direct2Drive has a few very minor drawbacks though.

Direct2Drive has a well polished website and well integrated interface for downloading games. When you first land on the home page you will see any current specials the site is running as well as best selling items. You can then browse by genre. Finding what you want on Direct2Drive is not a problem. Once you find the game you want you add it to your shopping cart and checkout. You then go into your account and download links appear for the you purchased. You can also view any games you have purchased through Direct2Drive from this screen. You then just download the game and follow the prompts.

Direct2Drive does have a few small drawbacks however. No auto-patching is available and you have to go through Direct2Drive to get most of your patches if Direct2Drive even has them. This can be quite a pain if you need a patch for online play etc. When you purchase the game it is however generally fully patched so older games shouldn't have this issue. Also if you want to go on a buying spree you can only buy 5 games in a 24hour period at Direct2Drive. I only ran into this problem when I was loading up on games when they had a $5.00 sale going and they had about 15 games I wanted to buy on sale. Once again this is a very small issue but certainly something to be aware of. Also Direct2Drive can be a bit pricey as they don't regularly offer sales on new releases.

Overall Direct2Drive is a great place to purchase PC games. It certainly is convenient for those of us who prefer to do our shopping online or don't want to deal with going to a store. The patching issue is a problem with most digital PC games these days and hopefully will be fixed soon.
