Should I Buy a School Supply Kit? #1: Check with the Teacher
When in doubt, check with the teacher. Teachers go to school to prepare their room before school officially starts and though they may not be able to talk to you directly, you can call the school office and inquire if the teacher has a supply list that your student needs to bring. If there is a list, the teacher would have probably left it with the front desk so that the students can prepare. Once you have the list you can determine if it would be better for you to buy a kit or to buy supplies on their own before heading back to school.
Should I Buy a School Supply Kit? #2: Make a Base List of What You Need
If your teacher does not have a list handy, then make your own list. Write down what supplies you think that you would need before starting school. Do you only need a pencil holder, pencil sharpener, scissors and ruler? If so, then you might be better off buying a supply kit as there are several affordable back to school kits on the market that contains just that for a low price. When you have your list written out, you'll have an easier time deciding which route you should take.
Should I Buy a School Supply Kit? #3: Research Prices
Research prices of everything you need individually and then research how much the items would be if they were sold in a set. You may find that buying individually is cheaper then buying in a set and other times it may be the other way around. With the economy how it is, go the cheaper route if you're on a budget. Back to school time is loaded with deals being offered by stores that want YOUR business so you should have no problem finding what you need.
Should I Buy a School Supply Kit? #4: Ease
If you simply don't have time to buy individual items for school, then the ease of buying a school supply kit is what you need. You don't have to search for items one by one; instead you can buy everything you need in one shot. Go to a local office supply store to see what is available or enter "School Supply Kits" in a search engine to buy online.
