Should You Cancel Your Home Phone and Make Your Cell Phone Your Primary Line?

Everywhere that you go you can see people talking on cell phones. They are everywhere. People talk in their car, grocery shopping, at the doctor's office, and at family gatherings. In some cases, you hear someone talking and you cannot even really be sure if they are talking to you or on the phone. When asking for a person's number, one usually receives a cell number.

A lot of people have now opted to cancel their home phone line and strictly use their cell phone. At one point in time, the cell phone was only for mobile usage. However, people has wised up and realized that paying for two phone bills a month may not be the best choice. Although it likely will save you money, weigh your options before canceling your home phone line and using your cell phone as your primary communication carrier.

One pro of only having a cell phone is saving money. Two phone bills can be costly. When using a cell phone you also save on long distance. Most home phone line carriers charge for long distance use unless you have a special plan. Cell phones are usually no extra with their plans.

While using your cell phone sounds like a good idea, it also has its cons. With a cell phone, you have to worry with having a signal. Not all cell phones work in all locations. My cell phone does not always get a signal inside my house. Therefore, I may not always be able to use it when I am at home. There is also the fact that cell phones are long distance for some people to call. My local home phone line provider charges people to call a cell phone. It costs just like a long distance call. It would be long distance for someone to call my cell phone from his or her home phone. Cells phones are also thought to be bad for your health. Some research say that prolonged use of a cell phone may cause cancer.

There are many things to consider before giving up your home phone line and strictly going cellular. However, it may be the best option for you. As long as you have a good signal connection in most areas and the calls will be free for friends and family, you will be saving money each month by only having one phone line. It would likely be worth some thought.
