Should You Celebrate Someone Else's Misery?

Three Reasons Why You Shouldn't

Watching movies has given us an insight to justice, of bad people getting what they truly deserve. In reality, your nemesis can be anyone - from your green-eyed colleague at work.. to your boss from Hades. There is just an unexplainable desire in getting even, to put justice on your hands, than waiting for some retribution to happen through its natural course.

" Why would you even celebrate someone's misery in the first place? " Ask yourself this, as you imagine hundreds of people dying from hunger everyday, or of those misplaced victims of natural calamities. If you can really feel mega bliss like you're in cloud-nine high as you think of these hapless souls, then, you are either a person full of hate for the world, or just totally whacked. Surely, you don't deserve what has happened to you, but this is not a good reason to laugh at other people's misery, specially if these people are those who have made you feel bad and low about yourself.

There are many things to celebrate in life and misery is DEFINITELY NOT! At one time, we all have hated an obnoxious person that have made life a living hell for us, and it felt so good to see this person fall from his lofty pedestal. Yet, all those hating could have been channeled into something more positive. The world is already full of sad stories - of war, loss, and defeat. There's no need for more drama. Here are three reasons why you shouldn't celebrate someone's defeat:

Reason #1: Carrying Grudges is like Digging Your Own Grave

Hate can burn us faster than we can ever imagine, and deep grudges only make us sink deeper into the dark pool of hatred. The only reason for someone celebrating his or her enemy's misery is - utter loathsome. Nobody's perfect and at one point, we have even experienced intense feelings of anger that blinded us from seeing reason. From plotting plans of vengeance to wicked imaginings, the only purpose it serves is defeat. So, your cheating friend had suffered greatly and you had the last laugh, and then, what? Did it justify the hate you harbor inside? Living in spite is like drinking your own venomous cocktail, which will poison the very air you breathe. It is not only time-consuming, but, a total waste of time!

Reason #2: Karma is so.. Digital!

If the point hasn't sink in yet, imagine the reverse: You are suffering and someone throws a big cocktail party over it. How would you feel? The golden rule is the oldest and most cliched rule in the book, but the wisdom it gives is timeless. The wheel of fortune is always turning, you can be on top right now and at rock-bottom in the next millisecond. Karma is faster than the speed of sound, ticking like the numbers on your digital watch. How so? Simple. The laws of cause and effect, that for every action, there's always an equal and opposite reaction. Even those peals of wicked laughter is sending out negative vibes through the cosmos, which will lead its way back to you, faster than the laws of gravity will allow. What must rise... must also fall.

Reason# 3: Anger is Fatal

Is it only in the movies that people die of heart stroke after an intense episode of anger? The answer is NO. In real life, anger can really be fatal, like a volcano exploding and disrupting your heart's normal function. In the medical world, this is known as Cardiac Arrythmia, where your heart becomes erratic and quickly stops on the last heartbeat. If this happens, you can only hope to have quick access to a defibrillator before your heartbeat dies away with you. For this reason, anger management programs have been placed to help people deal with their anger. Remember, no matter how bad a person is, he or she is not worth dying for.

There are many beautiful things in life to celebrate instead, like the joy on the face of a newborn child, the smile of the kindest stranger, the presence of the people we love in our lives, the very life you are living right now, and the list goes on. Leave bitterness to coffee beans and dark chocolates. Appreciate life in itself and live each day with love. All you have to do is give it a try... It can be very addictive.

Celebrate Life. Celebrate Love.
