Should Cell Phones Be Banned While Driving?

Aiman
While most people may not realize it, life is much more important than a cell-phone call. Everyone knows the fact that it really is DIFFICULT to concentrate on more than one thing at once, since that is the nature of humans. And especially, if that one thing you should concentrate on, is the road and your surroundings. Simply put, you are much more aware of the road and your surroundings when you are concentrating on them fully, rather than answering a cell-phone call.

Recently, a law was introduced in many countries which includes the United Kingdom and Ireland, that if you were caught holding a cellphone in your hand while driving, you would be fined up to about one thousand pounds and also receive point on your driving license. However, people have been getting around this law, by using handsfree and wireless kits that are connected to the phone. Using these kits, they can still manage to have both their hands on the wheel.

However, even with these kits, the concentration level is still lessened. You are still not concentrating entirely on the most important aspect of driving; keeping the drivers around you, and yourself safe of any potential dangers or possible collisions that you should avoid. The only way to keep everyone safe, is to not talk on the cellphone at all while you are driving. Talking on a cellphone while driving, be it handsfree or the actual handset, reduces your concentration, since you also try to concentrate on what the person is saying while driving. The law, does not currently punish anyone for using handsfree kits, but personally, I believe, this should change. Cellphone conversations and driving are two things that cannot go together.

Many fatal accidents and crashes, occur because the person is talking on the cellphone and is not fully concentrating on the roads around him, and the drivers. They are not aware, and do not consider the fact, that this act can affect all other drivers around them, as well as pedestrians. Talking on the cellphone, while driving, may seem harmless to them, but they donot realize how dangerous it can be until they actually put an end to an innocent driver's life which can easily be avoided.

Driving is a serious responsibility. You are responsible for the lives and safety of fellow drivers and pedestrians alike when you are driving. Thus, you need to concentrate fully on the road, and on nothing else. Laws should be enforced that ban the usage of cellphone in any form at all while driving. This is how we can keep the roads, drivers, and pedestrians safe.

FINALLY someone sees this wreckless decision needs punishment. I have been almost run over by motorists who weren't paying attention, because they were too busy talking instead of looking both ways. I just about hate cellphones now. Cellphones are put ahead of logic, and, are coming in between people communicating face to face. No wonder today's society is oblivious to interpersonal/social skills. It's a wonder people even know what facial gestures mean anymore.

It's a good thing that we have bluetooths today. Only ban cellphone use for stupid reasons, not for emergencies or important stuff. But the reason why we want to ban cellphones while driving, is because people who are talking on the phone or texting(looking down) get distracted. On dr. Phil, there was a episode where a women texts while driving in the highway. I mean that's CRAZY!

While there may be a whole lot of points that DO lower our concentration, cellphones, is one of the worst. Drinking and driving IS illegal in most countries, and needs to be made illegal in many others. Makeup while driving, is totally useless, and not sensible, so, no point in actually underlining that issue in an article.
However, the main focus of this article, is cellphones, so, that is what it concentrates on.

Yeah, thanks for the comments... :) There are lots of people who still do not realize the dangers of conversing on cellphones while driving. Well, the world, and every place.. has its share of good and evil :)
