Should Christian Kids Be Allowed to Watch VeggieTales?

If you are like the thousands of Christian parents, frustrated that everything educational, including Sesame Street, teaching ideas not found in the Bible, such as evolution; you will love the idea of VeggieTales. Let me tell you how wonderful it is to be able to say that my four year old son is attached to the VeggieTales. There is a great feeling that spikes in me when I see his face light up and laugh along with these really cute characters while enhancing his morals.

First of all, let me introduce you to the concept behind VeggieTales. VeggieTales is a biblical based children's' computer animated cartoon. In 1993, VeggieTales debuted their first video, Where's God When I'm S-Scared?" Believe it or not, this video is the first ever computer animated video created. Yes, even before Disney released Toy Story, VeggieTales was already on store shelves. The basic concept behind the video series is to introduce kids to bible stories, scripture and teach good morals. VeggieTales does this by creating a very "silly" and funny story line that is recognizable to a story found in the Bible.

The crew of the VeggieTales are all lovable vegetables. The favorite seems to be Larry the Cucumber, who recently became the hero named Larry Boy, which copies off the "batman" theme. There are many other characters that kids, grown ups, and even teens fall in love with. The show is entertaining for kids and adults alike. There are jokes that hit parents on the funny note, that the kids don't get, making it enjoyable for the whole family. The difference is, unlike many Disney or other film makers, these jokes are not the kind that would turn anyones cheeks red due to it's inappropriate content.

I must admit, watching these videos with my kids is a truly enjoyable experience. I love it, and to be honest; I usually learn a thing or two from each movie. There are many stories in the Bible that as I kid, I just didn't pay attention to. The VeggieTales, or the creators of VeggieTales, do an excellent job of making this video series such a hit. It doesn't have that "boring" feel to it that many bible cartoons may. You will not get bored of the VeggieTales either. Their video line is extensive and growing. There are silly songs that will make you laugh and giggle, and smile when your kids sing them!

Adding VeggieTales to your video library will not be a mistake. Each movie has a target lesson, everything from teaching about selfishness, telling the truth and self worth to fighting temptation and obedience. These are just a few of the examples of teachings your children will learn. They will also hear Scriptures, and see their new found favorite characters act out a biblical based story in a very creative way.

The best thing about VeggieTales is you can buy them almost everywhere. VeggieTales movies can be found in WalMart, Target, Kmart, and so many other stores. You can rent them from your local blockbuster or other video store. For a larger selection of VeggieTales items, including memorabilia, can be found on line, in specialty Christian book stores, and in some of the discount stores previously mentioned.

This is an amazing video series created by Big Idea Productions, If you have a child aged three to ten, I would highly recommend adding a few videos to your home library. You will not be sorry!
