I doubt anyone is going to hell just for watching R rated movies. There are plenty are plenty of worse things that Christians can do. Watching a movie is passive, and doesn't involve any real actions. Just because you watch a movie, it doesn't mean that you condone the things that the characters in the movie do or their behaviors. Christians should watch R rated movies, but they need to stick to their virtues as well.
Movies are a big part of the American society, and say a lot about American people and how they view the world. As Christians, we have every right to know what's going on in the world. We have the right to be informed about the things that are going on around us, even if they are bad things. Just because you're a Christian, it doesn't mean that you have to be oblivious to the bad things in the world. Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge, and we've known about both good and evil since then.
If Christians don't know about the bad things that are going on in the world, there is nothing they can do about them. As Christians, we can't turn our backs to the bad and evil things in the world. If Christians want to make the world a better place, they need to know about the things that need to be made better. R rated movies are a good place to start looking for those things.
Not all R rated movies are completely full of sex and violence and illicit behavior. The truth is that there are some great R Rated movies out there. Such movies include Reign Over Me, The Passion of the Christ, and House of Sand and Fog, and Man on Fire. Sure, Man on Fire does have its violent parts, but it's basically the story of a man who died so that a little girl could live. Movies can teach us positive valuable lessons, even if they are rated R.

This is why the so called "Body of Christ" is such a mess in the United States today! So called "Christians" with the "Liberty"to do whatever they please, engage in whatever they please, watch whatever they please, say what ever they please, dress in whatever they please and call it liberty "in" Christ! God will spew us out of His mouth! Which probably means...no salvation!
First off, most of you need to learn to either type or spell ... An "R" rated movie can not be judged by it's rating!!!! As said in this article it is entertainment. and Some of the shows on "sitcoms" and "talk shows" today are worse than most "R" rated movies. I know there are more important things to worry about than an "R" rated movie. I am a believer in God, Jesus. Once more it is your "own" heart that has to answer at the end. God, Jesus is not going to con-dim anyone to hell for simply watching an "R" rated movie so long as your are old enough and wise enough to not follow the acts in the film. Also I would like to ad, I hear a lot of Christians that have tried to speak words to the dying on their death bed and the person simply doesn't want to talk about it ... if rated r movies give you a look into what is evil then you need to open your door and walk outside, we know what evil is... why subject ourselves to it? why desensitize ourselves for 2 ours of crap entertainment?

"R" rated movies most likely contain strong profanity, graphic sexuality, nudity, strong violence, scariness, gore, and drug use. An R-rated movie may have more blood, gore, drug use, nudity, or graphic sexuality than a PG-13 movie would admit.

You say "Shielding ourselves from movies won't protect us from the evil realities out there." You then say "Movies are merely an escape from real life..." So are you for embracing reality or escaping it?
