But campuses would never be safer if college kids were allowed to carry guns. College kids are teens who tend to be rather rash and might take any step for the sake of enjoyment. Allowing them guns can result in shooting games and other dangerous sports. Kids might get drunk and shoot others on the campus. Besides, the bullies will get a solid upper-hand, sneaking stray bullets whenever it pleases them.
Guns are a means of self defense but with kids it might become a game, or worse still, small fights would be settled by bullets instead of the traditional fists. If a university or a college is well protected and strict security is practiced there is no reason why students should carry guns. Gun control only can work with the good students. The bad students cannot be controlled or exercised pressure once they are in possession of a weapon. The lives of not only the students but that of the staff will be threatened if students are permitted to carry weapons for their defense. Students might not stop at any limits and may shoot a teacher if he/she has been firm in instilling discipline.
If students were allowed to carry weapons they would be more tempted to draw themselves in fights, having the confidence that with the presence of a weapon they have become untouchable. Such teens are also likely to have more problems in school. They may attend fewer days of school, fall a prey to drugs, participate in gang fights, robbery and may even get involved in serious crimes.
Colleges might also be dragged in legal problems if gun rights legislation is implemented. To avoid serious problems colleges should have a metal detector at the entrance or a penalty for any student found with a gun or a knife. The hot action movies that the youngsters watch has a profound effect on them. Just to imitate their favorite stars they may take a go at gun banging any day. Even concealed weapons should not be allowed.
A college or a school is supposed to be a very safe place. In my opinion, the parents as well as the citizens will feel much safer with unarmed students rather than with armed ones, because in this new century the rules of the game has changed. The motives of bearing a gun is to kill not to be protected.

Post a CommentWhere does the author get the information that students with guns will attend less classes, fall into drugs, and commit crimes. And NO, college students that can carry guns are NOT teens. You have to be 21 to carry almost everywhere.
And the argument that bad kids will not be good with weapons on campus is just wrong. Do you think bad kids care about the laws anyway.
Students shooting teachers just because of discipline is just plain stupid. This is college. Not high school. The same argument was made regarding weapons in general saying that fights over parking spaces and car accidents would turn into shootings. That has been proven wrong. There are many other lies and myths in this article.
