Should CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Come to an End?

When CSI began, it was a new television drama that went where no show and few movies had gone before. With the use of computerized graphics and extremely cool crime fighting technology, viewers tuned in every week.

Since then two other CSI shows have been spun off from the original including, CSI: Miami and CSI: New York. There are also the many Law and Orders that are also slipping in the ratings and the other crime and legal dramas such as Shark.

CSI no longer rules and have not shown us anything new and fresh in years. Every episode seems to be the same, the only difference being the killers and victims. Even when they add a twist and try to do a ripped from the headlines episode, there is nothing new that they bring to the table.

CSI was also based on the real lives of CSI's when the show started but to keep viewers interested they have stepped out of the realm with new technology that real life CSI's say does not exist. They also say that the cool cars and the way that the television CSI's dress are far from the truth. Turn on the television and watch the news one afternoon and chances are you will see a bunch of men and women in white jumpsuits handling a crime scene. Unlike the television show, real CSI's do not dress like they are about to hit the Las Vegas clubs.

Besides flirting with the truth, CSI has also dropped because of the cast. The newest CSI is CSI: New York and yet they have changed cast members multiple times. The same goes for CSI: Miami. The original CSI however has kept the same exact cast members from the beginning and has never given us anyone new.

A few years ago, Quentin Tarantino directed a season finale of CSI that had Nick Stokes buried underground and put in jeopardy. That would have been the perfect time to kill off a great character and bring some more interest and buzz to the show. Instead, Nick Stokes was saved and CSI went on. To recoup their lost ratings, CBS then had a big advertising campaign letting us know that someone would get shot. Many people took this to believe that someone would finally die on CSI. Instead Captain Jim Brass was shot and recovered in no time.

All of the characters are great and they work well together, but to really keep the show moving new blood should have been brought in a long time ago. What has happened to CSI is that all the cast members are part of the show and it is now uncertain whether or not CSI can continue to move forward if anyone decides to leave voluntarily or if the writers decide to finally kill off a character.

I have watched this show a few times. I really like NCIS. They use a weird sort of humor in NCIS.

I still enjoy CSI-vegas, but never did care much for CSI-NY. Not sure why. Myself, I get attached to characters. As long as the cases stay interesting I'll keep tuning in!

Great article! I lost it with CSI when they started focusing more on the personal lives of the investigators than the crimes. I think introducing Hodges as a larger character is helping, at least a bit.
