Should Eliot Spitzer Resign?

Corruption exists in all areas of government, and there are few politicians who make a valiant effort to fight against it. Eliot Spitzer, Governor of New York, is one of those individuals. Unfortunately, he is now involved in a little bit of "corruption" himself. The married father of 3 was busted in a massive prostitute ring. Spitzer's extracurricular activities have just been exposed to the public.

Now everyone is asking the question, "should Spitzer resign?" It is a serious question that shouldn't be taken lightly. He is the leader of one of the largest states in the nation, and his decisions affect millions of Americans. New York residents deserve honesty and they expect the people who they elect into office to behave accordingly. This doesn't mean that Spitzer should resign though.

Adultery is an epidemic in this country. Millions of men and women cheat on their spouses all the time. Why is the media making a big deal Spitzer's affair? Are politicians expected to not make mistakes? They are human beings just like us. Occasionally, they have a lapse in judgment and their character flaws begin to show.

With this said, Spitzer shouldn't resign unless he feels like it is something he should do. His actions really aren't that different from the masses, and e has not hurt New Yorkers. When a politician cheats on his wife, it does not affect s ability to lead. Powerful men cheat on their wives all of the time! We all know about Former leaders like Bill Clinton, who have had their affairs exposed. His actions may have made him less trustworthy, but they don't exactly make him corrupt.

Elliot Spitzer owes his family an apology. He has embarrassed them on a national level because he could not keep it zipped up. He owns New Yorkers an apology as well. He should be allowed to regain New Yorkers trusts though. Everyone deserves another chance. And there are politicians who are much more corrupt then Governor Spitzer is.

Spitzer's actions may be seen as hypocritical to some; however that still does not affect his ability to lead. We all learn from our mistakes. We all have different values. Soliciting a prostitute isn't that high up on the corruption scale anyway. He isn't misusing tax dollars. He's not harming the citizens of his state. He isn't putting the needs of big business ahead of the middle class. The media, along with conservatives, are just making an example out of Spitzer. Spitzer should not Resign.

I hope that he does resign...as a NY resident, I am so sick of these corrupt politicians in our state govt...Our elected officials should always maintain high standards...it not just about getting laid...its about possible money laundering and fraud. He needs to go for the best interest of the people of NY...but of course, we NYrs put up with anything, don't we?...hell, we are the ones who let an out of state former first lady use us as a stepping stone to get into the White House.
