Americans, by and large, do not understand satire. This gross negligence is highlighted by the philistines wishing to ban the group. Obviously, this group is fundamentally satirical. We can know that because the group is 'praying' for President Obama's death. As we all know, praying doesn't work. Go ahead, pray for a good job (or any job), or a promotion, or for America to stop dropping bombs on less privileged brown people overseas, or NATO troops raiding and murdering Afghani women and children (read that here), or a cure for cancer, or for the beneficent Goldman Sachs to be whisked away by a chariot from Heaven, taking them home from where they came (Goldman doing God's work?). Write to me and tell me what happens.
Also, this Facebook group is satirical, at least by those who initially created it, because it mimics an email passed around by the New Jersey teachers unions earlier in April that states something similar in respect to Republican governor Chris Christie. Satire, folks.
So, over one million people (if we can call them people) 'liked' the group. How many of those folks decided to join in on the satire? Probably not many of them, because if they're Americans, they don't understand satire and they joined in all seriousness. These people, I'm comfortable saying, are stupid jerks. But that is no reason to ban a satirical group.
The most obvious reason this Facebook group shouldn't be banned is because the only people piggish enough to seriously support such a group titled 'praying for President Obama's death' are probably fundamental Christians. This is evident because they believe in praying for murder (just as Jesus implicitly preached), and secondly, they live in America. They must be fundamental (meaning, lack of brains, Sarah Palin, and idiotic) Christians. If you see the world through their eyes, the group is issuing President Obama a bit of relief, because he claims Christianity as his religion, and we all know that Christians, when they die, go to heaven. Kind of like all good junkies.
If these pig-headed, stupid, satirical jerks get their wish, they will only have succeeded in delivering Obama to paradise. If this group was really serious, it wouldn't be willing to do that. If you're wishing to ban this group, you're wishing to ban satire. If you're wishing to ban satire, you're striking the very heart of godliness, and if you are an enemy of godliness, you will be destroyed.

Post a CommentGreat article. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this subject. I agree that the group is satirical and that it shouldn't be banned or perceived as a legitimate threat to the President. Still, Malina has a great point (and one that I hadn't seriously considered before). One person's satire really may be another's "call to action".
Sad thin though Adam is someone will not see the group and its message as 'Satire'. They will see it as a call to action! This will be the very one who will go out and attempt to do something and might just succeed!
