Should the Federal Government Intervene to Save Big Corporations from Bankruptcy?

No, the federal government should not intervene to save big corporations from bankruptcy. When companies like AIG go under, and are paid with huge amounts of taxpayer money, we see that even in a drowning corporation the CEO's still find ways to dish out $10,000 to $6.5 million bonuses to company executives. It's not their money so they have no right to spend it.

That's exactly what happens when you give greedy people money. They spend it and ask for more. The federal government doesn't give bailouts to small businesses, so why should they give bailouts to large corporations? Just because they employ a lot of workers? When the government interferes with businesses, they just dig an even bigger hole so the stock market can go lower and lower.

So far about $180,000,000,000 of tax payer money has been given to AIG. $180 billion. Just look how big the number is. Considering there being about 300 million people in the US, and my rough estimate of about 180 million employed, taxpaying, working people. that means each working American has paid about $1,000 to save AIG from going down, and to thank us they take another dollar from us all and give bonuses to the executives. They take OUR money, to line their pockets.

I simply think this is proof that when the federal government messes with big corporations and gives bailouts it's simply less money in our pockets and more in the corporation's. I haven't seen any AIG commercials lately, that would lead me to believe they still aren't doing well. With every working American's thousand dollars, they still haven't recovered yet. That should tell you they don't need anymore of our money to go toward wasteful spending.

Why can't we just let them go down? They're just going to go spend OUR money on a jet or something. If i was to ask someone if i could have some of their money, I definitely wouldn't drive my Rolls Royce to their house to ask for it!(referring to CEO's of Ford, Chrysler and GM going to Washington in private jets to ask for taxpayer money)

The last thing the taxpayers need in this economic depression is to be spending billions of dollars on private jets for CEO's. We simply should not have to spend our money to keep a business afloat, It's called a business for a reason. You don't go into business to TAKE money from people. Businesses were not created to be a reason to ask for taxpayer money. They are meant offer goods or services to the people, and in return they EARN money, not TAKE it.
