Yes, it is that time of year again. It is time to ask yourself that question of "Should You Get the Flu Vaccination?" I cannot help but wonder what would have happened if I had gotten my flu shot sooner because right now I am very sick. I was still going over the pros and cons of getting my annual seasonal flu vaccination when I got sick. How about you? Have you thought about whether you should get the flu vaccination this year? Here are some pros and cons of getting the flu vaccination:

Pros

Getting the flu vaccine is supposed to help keep you from getting certain kinds of flu (influenza). Influenza is a viral infection of the respiratory tract that is highly contagious. Some symptoms of it include fever, nasal congestion, chest pain, sore throat, and headache. Every year there is usually a flu vaccine that you can get that will protect you from several strands of the flu virus that is most anticipated of being the most popular strands to go around. For example, I know that this year it has the H1N1 and its counterpart. It also has two other strands in it too. The theory of getting the flu vaccination is if you can get a little of the influenza into your system and you can fight it off then you will not get the full version of it.

As you probably know, being sick is the worst. Having the flu is not something that most people wish for. So, being able to be proactive, and help yourself to stop getting the flu is a huge pro for getting the flu vaccination. It is especially helpful for those people who are at high risk of developing complications due to health conditions. For example, people with heart or kidney disease because the flu virus can lead to more complications.

Cons

Many people have several cons about getting the flu vaccination. Some think it is not safe for their bodies. Most people who think like that think that most vaccinations are bad. Other people believe that getting the flu shot actually makes them get the flu, and so they are afraid to get it. Some people just do not like the big needles that have to into your body to inject the flu vaccine. There are many reasons why people chose not to get the flu vaccination.

I think it is a con that it takes up to two weeks for the flu vaccination to go into full effect. So, once you get the flu shot you have a big chance of getting the flu for the following two weeks because you are not protected. If you are planning on getting the flu vaccination make sure you get your flu shot before the flu season begins. Try to get it before October 1st if you are thinking about getting the flu vaccination. There are many pros and cons of getting the flu vaccination.
