You're not alone. Gone are the days when it's the man's job to go to work and women stay home to raise the children, and take care of the house. In today's society, a large number of women work outside the home. And even though their reasons vary, most do it because of financial necessity. This can be a very difficult decision, and a lot of women struggle with the guilt that's associated with leaving their newborn.
Is It Financially Feasible to Go Back To Work?
Going back to work is not without cost. You are going to need a pay for a sitter for your child, which can be quite costly. You are going to want a state regulated, reputable, facility that comes highly recommended. These facilities charges as much as $100 per week or more for one child. Other expenses will include the cost of new work clothing, lunches and snacks, the cost of baby formula, commuting cost such as gas, car maintenance, bus and or train tickets etc. At the end of the week when you've added the cost of going back to work, will it be financially feasible?
Benefits of Staying at Home With Your Baby
Studies show that from birth to toddler age is a very important developmental stage in your baby's life. They benefit greatly from close, constant contact with you. This strengthens the bond you have with your baby and leads to better relationship.
What Are your Options?
With new businesses exploding all over the Internet, you may want to consider working from home. All you need is a computer and access to the Internet. Many new mothers are taking advantage of the opportunity to have the best of both worlds. Not only can you contribute financially to your family, you also get to spend time with your baby.
Also keep in mind that that studies indicate that children benefit from the social interactions that they get from being around other children. So sending your child to daycare at least on a part time basis may not be such a bad idea. This will also give you time for yourself. Being a stay at home mom can be overwhelming and stressful at times. It's a full time job, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Not every new mother is happy staying home taking care of a baby all day.
Deciding whether or not to go back to work is an individual choice that families should make together, and the whole family should take this in consideration when making such a decision.
