Should You Go on a Fad Diet?

Jody Morse
We all have heard about a few fad diets and their convincing promises of bringing you ultimate weight loss immediately. You may have already noticed that many crash diets restrict you to eating in one main food group.

You should always keep in mind to visit your doctor before you begin any new diet or exercise programs. Many fad diets are no where close to the ideal food intake, as well as amount of exercise that is beneficial to your body.

Crash diets do not provide ways to keep off excess weight. Crash dieters are unable to learn how to permanently change their lifestyle habits since these diets are often drastically different from your regular eating habits.

Though it is completely up to you, it is best to only try a fad diet for about five to seven days. Many are not intended for you to follow on a long term basis. If you follow a fad diet longer than one to weeks, you will be likely to experience nutritional deficiencies. If you begin to feel strange or sick during the period of your fad diet, it is a good idea to stop your diet and contact your doctor if the problems persist.

If you do intend on keeping your diet for longer than a week or two, it is probably a good idea for you to research other forms of the diet, which may be okay for you to try for a longer period of time. However, if you will only be following the crash diet for a short period of time, there are a few helpful tips that you may want to keep in mind.

The week that you will try the crash diet, do your best to not overexert yourself. Even if this new diet has made you more energized than you were before, it is a good idea to just relax during your trial. Over-exertion may make this diet hard to follow.

It is also a good idea for you to try to keep away from any social activities that may involve food, as they will probably leave you feeling worse about yourself. This may cause you to try out another diet which may require you to limit your food intake even more.

Most fad diets will require you to limit your calorie intake. While it may only be a change from 2,000 calories a day to 1,000 calories a day, your body will be sure to feel a difference. If you want to beat your hunger cravings, your best bet is to drink a glass of cold water. Not only is water essential for keeping your body hydrated, but it also is a great way to help suppress hunger cravings and boost metabolism!

Many different studies have shown that people who begin unrealistic diets are very unsuccessful because they often gain their weight back after ending their diet. Once your crash diet trial ends, start with a well balanced diet that is easy for you to follow without any feelings of hunger. The only realistic way to lose weight permanently is to eat less and exercise regularly. A good diet will leave you feeling accomplished, as well as at a healthy body weight.
