The Dark Knight was a huge success last weekend and there is no doubt there will be a third film some time in the future. Most of the main cast members such as Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman are signed on to do three films. One question will be will the director, Christopher Nolan, be back to direct the third film. An even bigger question will be if they will bring the Joker back.
Almost everyone knows that Heath Ledger's death was a tragic loss for the world. He played the Joker in the new Batman film The Dark Knight. In the movie The Dark Knight the Joker is last seen hanging from a building. That would mean the Joker is still alive and could return if a third film was made. Many people have been talking about how Heath Ledger's performance deserves an Oscar nomination in the area of best supporting actor. The question is will another actor come in to play the Joker or will the character of the Joker be done with in the Batman movie series.
There are many reasons why the character of the Joker should remain untouched. The Joker was the last complete Heath Ledger performance and is undoubtedly his best only slightly comparable to his performance in Brokeback Mountain. If Heath Ledger were to get in Oscar Nomination for his performance would that change the decision of the producers to lay the Joker character to rest. If Heath Ledger were to win an Oscar for his performance the producers would 100% put the character of the Joker to rest. Depending on the Oscars and other awards will help in determining if the character of the Joker will return.
The another reason they may not choose to bring back the Joker is because there does not seem to be any actor out there who can match the performance that Heath Ledger preformed for the Joker. He preformed the Joker as it should have been done years ago. He created a character that audiences could believe just wanted the world to burn. Is there another actor that could pull of the Joker? Many online blogs mention Johnny Deep as an actor who could fill Heath Ledgers shoes but Johnny Deep is already paying his respects to Heath Ledger by helping Terry Gilliam finish Heath Ledger's last film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus by acting for a forth of Heath Ledger's part. The film also has Collin Farrell and Jude Law acting as the other half of Heath Ledger's character. Many others say they would like it to be Daniel Day-Lewis as Heath Ledgers replacement
Would another actor want to even take on the role of the Joker? The true fans would like to have the Joker be put to rest and see another villain enter and try to repeat what the Heath Ledger did for The Dark Knight. There are many villains that could be introduced and many that could be popular enough to repeat the success of The Dark Knight. Many believe that the Riddler will be the next character introduced into the Batman Series and there are already beliefs that we have already been introduced to the Riddler. In The Dark Knight there is a character named Mr. Reese. Many blogers are saying that his name shortened for a reason so it can sound like "Mysteries." This is many would represent the Riddler. There is also talk of Catwoman being a character in the next film because Lucas Fox said the Batman's new bat suit could protect against cats. Many say that Two-Face is not dead since we were given no evidence that Two-Face is dead. This would leave the villain for the third film that has already been introduced.
There are many villains that could be introduced and work well with Batman. Many will not be able to replace the Joker and since that the producers may try to bring the Joker back which is a possibility that could change for the better or worse depending on what the producers decide and what other things can influence the decision.
