Should Kathy Griffin Have Called Senator Scott Brown's Daughters 'Prostitutes', Even If Brown is Pimping Them?

As Senator Scott Brown Continues to 'pimp' His Daughters to Anyone Who Will Look, Kathy Griffin Calls Them 'prostitutes'

Cassandra James
On her Bravo reality TV show, comedian Kathy Griffin this week jokingly called Senator Scott Brown's daughters 'prostitutes'. Alluding to the fact that Scott Brown 'pimps' the girls all over the country, to anyone who will look at them, watch them or, in daughter Ayla's case, hear her sing. The girls have appeared in photographs taken with Scott Brown while both are wearing miniscule bikinis, been dragged up on stage by Brown, who then told audiences "They're single and available" and have had a whole lot of other pushing-them-in-your-face stuff visited on them by their father. So Brown himself should hardly be surprised when someone like Kathy Griffin calls him on it and accuses him of 'prostituting' his daughters to further his political career.

It's also a little hypocritical of Scott Brown to not expect people to comment, after having encouraged his daughters to be all over the news, on political campaign stops with him and, again, in Ayla's case to even be on 'American Idol', (she was voted off after a few weeks, something that still sticks in Brown's craw, who keeps pleading with 'American Idol' to give her another chance).

Besides, as the girls are adults (Ayla is 21 and Arianna 19), if they allow themselves to be used by their father for political gain, unlike the actual 'children' of other political figures, honestly, once they're in the political arena they really are 'fair game'.

Senator Scott Brown himself said this, in response to Kathy Griffin's 'prostitutes' comment: "People can call me any name they want, but families are off limits. I love my daughters, Ayla and Arianna very much, and any parent would be proud to have them as children. Kathy Griffin and Bravo ought to be ashamed of themselves."

I don't think anyone is calling into question Scott Brown's love for his daughters, but when he calls them "off limits", no Scott, they're not, as you became their 'Pimp' when you shoved them up there for all the world to see.

However, as a somewhat feminist (and I say 'somewhat', as there's a whole slew of stuff I don't agree with in the feminist movement), calling someone a 'prostitute' isn't particularly appropriate or going to win Kathy Griffin fans or help her influence people. While I do find Kathy Griffin hilariously funny on many levels, unfortunately sometimes she just doesn't know when to stop.

In this case, I do agree with Kathy Griffin that what Scott Brown is doing is prostituting his girls (who are stunningly beautiful, by the way) but, I also think it's a comment she should have kept to herself.

I think Bravo gave to much power to the so call comedian Kathy Griffin to spread criticism through laughable way, but we need to look at her background and you will understand the origins of rudeness of her criticism specially when she directed that to 2 beautiful young women not to their Father.

since she is a commedienne, does she have the right to say anything she wants? She obviously thinks she is funny, unfortunately she is the only who thinks that.

She's a commedienne in case you havent noticed. just ask the thing from The View Elizabeth Hasselhorse, thank god we have her to speak for the senator

The thing is; yes, they're adults...however they are there because they love their father and support him. I think that even adult children (particularly young adults) are off limits unless they are behaving in a dishonorable or illegal manner (then they would deserve any negative attention they'd garner). They were not elected and did not sign on to be abused by the public. I'm exhausted by people using the term "honesty" and "truth" to excuse/explain/condone hostile behavior. Mean and nasty is mean and nasty. Own up to it!

Trich, I'm not attacking Griffin on her views, as you'd see if you'd read my article correctly. I happen to like her and watch her show often. I just don't think she gained any fans by saying this, even if it is true, that's all. Oh and thanks but I already am very well educated :)

Okay, Seriously, I think people need to understand where someone is coming from before they speak their opinion! Kathy Griffin is only speaking the truth in its purest form...exaggerated as so its message can be heard. Kathy gets people talking about important issues via humor, which is one of the most powerful ways! If you look up the word Prostitute in the dictionary, you will clearly see its meaning 2. To sell (oneself or one's talent) for an unworthy purpose. So instead of attacking Kathy Griffin on her views, why not go out and educate yourself!

once again Cassandra; I agree. I have to say that I don't follow politics too much anymore so this kind of thing has been missed by me but it sure sounds like he's making his daughters 'on-limits' when he's got them on AI or offering marriage. I don't know; it seems fishy to me. Kathy Griffin and Bravo are totally fine; it's premium cable (Bravo wasn't in my basic cable package in Los Angeles) so she's free to mouth off as she sees fit (though clomping off young ladies at the knees is one reason Kathy Griffin is relegated to the D-list)
