Should I Keep Working at Home or Get a Real Job?

There comes a time in the lives of most of us who work at home when this question rears it's ugly head. Should I keep working at home, or is it time to get a "real" job?

The answer is seldom easy, or we would not be fretting over it in the first place.

To be frank, not EVERYONE thinks that working at home is as wonderful as we do. I've heard rumors that some people actually even LIKE having a "real" job. With bosses, and schedules, and rules about what time you have to be there, and even when and how often you can pee or take a cigarette break! I know, it's sick. But true.

Maybe you have financial problems, or are simply going insane with the monotony of seeing your living room walls for 16 hours every day. Whatever the reason, you can be assured you are not alone in your plight. Many go through this same dilemma just like you are right now. And I can assure you there is an answer, even if I don't know what that answer is.

If your computer is breaking down every other day, and your children are freezing because you can't afford to pay the electric bill, or you're eating Top Ramen every day to save money, then perhaps you really do need to go out and start looking for a job. At least temporarily. You can always start working at home again if it becomes more feasible.

On the other hand, if you are merely bored with the same old routine of your work at home life, you might be able to solve the problem. Try to mix things up, get out of the house more often. Join a gym, meet a friend for lunch, have an affair with that hot guy who mows your neighbor's lawn. Whatever. The point is to relieve the monotony of sitting at your computer and doing the same old stuff all the time.

Maybe your bored altogether with working at home, and you're really thinking about getting a real job. Here's a litmus test to decide if you really want to get a job or not. The next time your sitting at your computer, and you just can't bear the thought of writing one more stupid article, or writing one more useless post, ask your self this: Would I rather be cleaning a toilet in a skanky hotel (or whatever God-Awful job you can think of) or sitting right here, in my comfy chair, writing an easy article (or whatever)?

The answer should be clear to you immediately, and you will probably feel relieved right away that you decided not to drag your big butt out of the house and start lining up job interviews.

However, if you decided that cleaning a toilet would be even marginally better that what you are supposed to be working on right now, then maybe it IS time to get out there and get a job.
