Should Marshall Mathers A.K.A. Eminem Be Labeled the "King of Rap?"

Matthew Shively
We have Elvis Presley as the "King of Rock" and Michael Jackson as the "King of Pop." With those labels how could anyone add up? Well now we may have the "King of Rap." Some may disagree but I believe Marshall Mathers III should be labeled the "King of Rap" as he has done something with Rap music that no other artist has done; turn real life into some of the best music around. Now I have heard that maybe Jay-Z is the "King of Rap," but I with argue against that.

I am not going to tell you anything that you don't already know, because Eminem has said himself in all his music. He was a young boy that grew up without a father and a mother that was constantly moving him from place to place and struggling to survive with a young boy. Some may say that there are a lot of people that have lived that life. True, but Eminem took that life and turned it into some of the most truthful and thought out lyrics no rapper has been able to compete with. Ironically enough Marshall Mathers, also known as Eminem, is a white man that can be labeled "King of Rap" in a black music industry.

Emenem's music has caused much controversy and even at one point caused Marshall to look to drugs, alcohol, and violence. However, one thing is for sure Marshall truly loves his baby girl Hailie Jade Scott. Too many people jump on Emenem's case about his lyrics about drugs, violence, sex, alcohol and what those people don't realize is that Marshall is speaking a truth within most of his lyrics that many don't see or want to see in our society. People turn on the news at five or ten and see such things as murder, abuse, and drugs but never say anything to the news directors for showing that stuff. What is wrong with Marshall singing these words then? Some people hear Eminem's music and are disgusted and some like myself hear his music and here more reality than what is on the news. If you have even remotely lived a life outside normalcy then you would probably hear some of that truth in his lyrics. Yes, I will agree, some of his lyrics are far out there and quite violent, but how many of you truly listen to some of lyrics and try to understand what he is saying?

Outside of what we think or don't think let's just look at what he has accomplished. Here is a young white man that doesn't have much, trying to raise a young beautiful daughter. A man that has more talent than most rappers in the market and a man that has passion for not only his daughter, but his music as well. He took the leap out of the hard neighbor and lifestyle and went for his goals of his rap being heard by millions and becoming rich. Once Marshal was found by Dr. Dre and he produced his first record album The Slim Shady L.P. he became the hottest white rapper ever in history. He went on to create three more unprecedented albums that made history: The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, and Encore. These three albums alone broke records for most rappers and won numerous awards for Marshall. By the way should I remind you again that this is the first white rapper or any other race rapper for that matter that has accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. Let's us not forget that not only is Marshall an incredible rapper but also an impeccable actor. However, Marshall decided to take a break from his music for the most part so he could be a good father that he is and spend more time with his daughter Hailie. This shows truth to how good a man Marshall truly is. He may say some incredible stuff in his music but in the end the one thing that means the most to him is his daughter, whom he would do anything for in his life.

Upon completing his album Encore he decided to take a break from creating music that came so natural to him. During his break Eminem created an record agency known as Shady Records that has produced some of the hottest rappers on the market such as D12 and 50 Cent. Let's not forget about the many other productions with famous rappers like Jay-Z and Jadakiss. Once again Eminem was ready to pick the mic back up and release some lyrics of held in feelings. Recently Marshall released Relapse, which is by far the hottest album released yet this year by any rapper. The songs truly bring out feelings of his rehab and his true feelings about life and especially his baby girl Hailie Jade. It is by far, in my opinion, the best album created yet.

I believe Marshall Mathers is by far the most realistic and harmonized rapper in the industry that should indeed be labeled the "King of Rap" for bringing to the rap industry music that can be listened to year after year and never get old. Welcome to the royal realm of music Marshall Mathers a.k.a Eminem the "King of Rap." I can not wait to see what is next in the world of "The Real Slim Shady.

    Wow dude, Im touched;)
That was a great Tribute to Eminem. Im sure he would be flattered & grateful.
To me, there are only 4 Great Rappers of all Time!!! And that's 2pac, Eminem, Nas, & Bizzy Bone (who also had a traumatic life, member of Bone Thugs & Harmony, & is one of the fastest rappers alive). Those 4 share the crown for the best male rappers, in my opinion.
For females Id say Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Eve, Remy Ma, & Left Eye R.I.P!!! Just sayin.

I agree. Is he vulgar? Yes. Does he speak his mind? Yes. Is he perfect? No. At least he can rise up and learn from his mistakes and like you said make something great come of it. The legalities and corporate BS is what has labeled him so undesirable. A regular guy trying to make his way through life...That is Marshall Mathers. Once again Kudos! Thanks for the reply.
