Robinson also threw 22 passes and completed 19 of them with one of them being a pass that was thrown away.
While it may be premature to talk about Robinson for the Heisman, consider that Tate Forcier had similar hype after last year's Notre Dame game.
It's because college football observers know a running QB can put up huge numbers in Rich Rodriguez's system.
Pat White had a huge year as a freshman and Robinson is a sophomore who got some good playing time last year.
Considering that Forcier started the year with decent odds at 50-to-1 for the Heisman Trophy (which is actually good considering he was one of the top 10 candidates on the sportsbook), the more dynamic runner Robinson deserves the same.
Of course, it's very early. But another factor in the Denard Robinson Heisman hype equation is that Michigan's defense is so bad in the back seven, he will have to put up 400 yards or so of total offense every week to keep the Wolverines afloat as he did against UConn.
UConn is not a bad team either; some picked them at or near the top of the Big East and they beat South Carolina in a bowl game last year.
The throwing part is what gives Robinson fans the most enthusiasm, but running is his meal ticket. He might be the fastest QB many people have seen and that includes Michael Vick in his days at Virginia Tech.
With all that in mind and a wide open field, Robinson could have a shot at being a Heisman Trophy dark horse, but it's early, so let's wait and see how all of this unfolds first before getting ahead of ourselves.
