Should the NFL Cut the Preseason to Two Games?

In the article "Goodell Backs 18 Regular-Season Games" on espn.go.com, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suggested that fans and players dislike the current setup of four preseason games and 16 regular season games. He suggested an alternative of two preseason games and 18 regular season games. Is this a good idea? My feeling is no, and here's why:

The regular season is long enough. Sixteen games are plenty to determine who the best teams in the league are. Adding two more games to the season is not going to make some teams magically improve enough to get into the playoffs. In addition, two extra regular season games will pose a challenge as far as scheduling goes. Will the NFL simply choose to start the preseason at its regular time(around the beginning of August)? If so, the regular season would start two weeks earlier than usual. If they decide to start the preseason in mid-August, then the Super Bowl would be played in mid-February.

If the NFL is dead set on the two-preseason-18-regular-season-game format, I would prefer that they simply start the regular season earlier. The Super Bowl begins late enough as it is. However, I would suggest a completely different option. I would suggest that the NFL cut the preseason to two games and the keep the regular season at 16.

The problem with this is, the owners would never go along with it. More games equals more money. Eliminating two games, be they preseason or not, would cut too much into their revenue. To be perfectly honest, I don't care about this. Football is too much about money already. Owners try to squeeze concessions out of players. Players who are already making millions ignore contracts that they have signed and hold out because they have decided that their word means nothing and they're not rich enough.

More does not necessarily mean better. Eliminating two preseason games is not going to bother too many fans. It will keep the season at a decent length and might even cut down on the number of injuries suffered each year. That's my opinion.
