Should Prostitution Be Legalized?

Nobody's Being FORCED to Procure a Prostitute. Not Interested? Take a Pass

Of course! It's just a job, as far as I'm concerned. I'd like to think that most people could come up with something else they might take more pride in doing, but maybe not. There are folks who do pride themselves in their sexual prowess and expertise. So be it.

If people don't think prostitution is respectable enough to be legalized, then they should feel free not to procure a prostitute. Something about "forbidden fruit" apparently makes it more attractive to folks. Case in point, all the extremists who have been busted for soliciting a prostitute.Often, these are the very people who are known for favoring family values.

It's just human nature to want to try new things, to experiment. Not that everyone is like that, but for those who are, who is it harming. It won't prevent illicit affairs or lower the divorce rate if we outlaw prostitution. What do people hope to gain from banning it?

Making prostitution legal will probably help to cut down on the incidence of venereal diseases if prostitutes are required to get checked out. Perhaps they could received a certificate monthly if they are found to be disease-free. At least those who have sex with them will do so with the knowledge that they are not receiving or transmitting something harmful, even fatal.

Countries in Europe seem to be doing just fine, despite the fact that prostitution is sanctioned, or at least, law enforcement looks the other way. People are going to do what they're going to do. Let's at least clean up a messy business, and perhaps even collect some government revenue (taxes) at the same time.

  • Prostitutes will be healthier if the industry is monitored
  • The government can then collect taxes on something that is going to occur anyway
Most European countries permit it and they seem to be doing just fine.
