Should You Shop Early for Christmas?

Christmas is one of my most favorite times of the year. While Christmas shopping can be very tiresome and stressful, it can also be very exciting. I love the lights and the feeling of the Christmas rush. The stores are full and the bells are ringing.

However, some shoppers do not enjoy these same sights that I do. They prefer to shop early.

Yes, believe it or not some people already have their Christmas shopping complete. Halloween is just now on its way, and some shoppers have completed their Christmas shopping list.

While the stores are beginning to stock Christmas items and many more toys than usual, I am not quiet sure that I am in the Christmas shopping spirit yet. The traditional Christmas shopping day is the day after Thanksgiving. However, some shoppers just cannot wait that long. They begin ordering and shopping as soon as the last season is over.

While early birds often get the worm and avoid the shopping rush, sometimes shopping early is not as good of an idea as shopper think it might be.

Many stores have better sales and coupons closer to Christmas. It is also very possible for family members (especially children) to change their mind about what gifts they want. Therefore, you are then stuck in the return line and trying to find the gift that is new on the list.

Shopping early is also difficult for parents. They are stuck trying to find a place to hide the gifts. The children end up finding the gifts and the parents go ahead and give the children the gift. The parents then must go out and buy more Christmas presents for the children. Therefore if you do plan to shop early, make sure that you have a secure hiding place, preferably at another location than your home.

In other cases, shoppers tend to buy more when they begin shopping early. They start buying items in the summer and then continue to pick things up all the way until Christmas. They do not realize how much hey are buying and spending because they are purchasing small amounts at a time.

Some early shoppers shop completely online. This too can be troublesome. Returning items that are damaged in the mail or that do not fit can be a hassle.

While I have started checking out books and questioning loved ones on Christmas wishes, I have not ran out to any stores yet. I likely will not for several weeks.

So is shopping early for Christmas gifts wrong? Not really. It may work great for you. However, in my cases it is just not the best idea.
