Should Two Teens Be Tried as Adults for the Brutal Death of a 7 Year-old?

Stephanie Manning
In the case of 7-year-old Zoe, who was killed by her sister, Heather (16), and her boyfriend, Lamar (17), I strongly believe that they should be tried as adults. Both Heather and Lamar brutally killed 7-year-old Zoe while 'practicing' Mortal Kombat moves. The two admitted to violently killing the girl but told police it was an accident. Heather and Lamar both took part in beating the girl. Heather told police that she had punched Zoe in the stomach, arms, punched and pinched her thighs, kicked her in her legs slapped her stomach, poked her in the chest and karate chopped her arms.

While the two teenagers had no actual reason for doing so, it appears that they were practicing Mortal Kombat. No on lookers want to know 'should the two teenagers be tried as adults'. I say "Yes" by all means! Both the 16 and 17 year old knew what they were doing when they done it. Both should have known that the moves they were doing on the 7 year old was not only harmful but deadly. If they have no better since then to do something like that to a 7 year old, they don't need to be on the streets. While I do understand that they are still considered "children" they are old enough to know better. Had they only broken an arm, then I could seen them being tried as a child. But when you continuously and brutally beat someone to death then you have to have know what you were doing and would the outcome would have been. The fact that they continued to beat here is what gets me. If they saw the child was in pain they should have stopped. Instead they continued to beat 7 year-old Zoe until her body was lifeless. Therefore, I believe that they should be tried as adults and face the same punishment as anyone else who brutally murdered a 7 year old. If these two get away without being punished, then we are simply telling the rest of the worlds it's ok as long as you have an excuse! It's bad enough that these days you can get away with murder if you claim to be crazy.

The law is giving to many option and loops whole to those who commit such heinous crimes. There is no reason for anyone to ever kill anyone else unless they are physically about to hurt them. It's sad that many people get away with murder simply because they plead insanity, while the innocent man who shot someone while protecting his family in a home invasion gets life. We really need to think about what's going on here! Allowing these two teenagers to get away with the brutal crime would simply tell other teens "Go kill your brother and sister and then tell the deputies that you did it because your were practicing".
