Should I Upgrade My iPhone 3G to a 3GS?

I bought an iPhone 3G about a year back. And I was so excited even though I had put it off, and put it off. My husband about a year prior to that had purchased a regular iPhone. It was about 500.00 and thought it was the dumbest move ever. I felt like it was way too much money for a phone, I did not care if it talked to you. When he bought me my iphone it only costs 299.00 which by the way, still is not that cheap for a phone, he also bought one and than sold his old phone. Ok that was a smart move, I guess, maybe.

My question now is, should I upgrade to an iPhone 3GS. What is the big difference? I keep hearing about it, and I of course do not want to spend another 299.00 for a 16 gig phone.

Well the new additions to the iPhone 3GS are that

  1. It is supposed to be 2X's faster. It loaded application, and website a lot faster, noticeably faster that the iPhone 3G. Ok. I can appreciate that.
  2. With the iPhone 3GS you can also record video, edit video and than email it, or push it to youtube, or your mobile me account, or sync it with your mac. This feature I believe is the best. I often shoot videos and than have to email them to myself, which take sup way to much time because of the file size. And because it is a third party application it is buggy, with no support etc. The fact that I will now be able to sync my video to my macbook is fantastic.
  3. The 3GS also come with a three-megapixel camera, which is great because I also am a budding amateur photographer as is any journalist. Stories become so much clearer when photos accompany them.
  4. Voice control is another great feature that the iPhone 3GS will have. If you want to call a contact all you have to do is simply say the name. I also wondered about this whole Bluetooth thing. If I still have to dial the number, it kind of still makes driving and using the phone unsafe, unless you are going to pull over to dial as well. Next thing you know, hear in California they may make it a law, where not only are you required to have an ear piece, but voice control as well. (smile)
  5. With the iPhone 3GS there is a built in digital compass. This will come in great handy as a Muslim that prays anywhere and everywhere. I often do not know which direction is north due east, so I pray with the best of intentions. But this compass app will be of great benefit. Especially when I am looking for bookstores and libraries only to find I'm headed the wrong direction on the street. (LOL)
  6. Cut, Copy,Paste is a new feature added by Apple, but hey I used Cydia so I have had that feature for a while now. It really comes in handy when writing AC articles on the go.
  7. The new landscape keyboard will be so great. Some apps with the 3G utilize the landscape keyboard, but not all. How much since does that make. Well with the 3GS it's no longer a problem.
  8. I've been hearing about this MMS thing for a while, and it seems like apple is taking their sweet time. It says that with iPhone 3Gs, you will be able to send messages with text, video, and audio via MMS later this summer.
  9. The ability to search your entire iPhone 3GS, like you would Google, etc is also a great additional feature. Often times I cant find emails, and or photos or contacts, and I just want to search for them, not having to slide my finger across to find an app within ten pages of apps etc.
  10. Apple has also added a voice over, and zoom in features to the 3GS for the seeing and hearing impaired. That is fabulous.
  11. I will be able to use my iPhone 3Gs to tether with my macbook and get on the Internet just about anywhere. No more sitting at Starbucks when I really want to go to Jamba Juice or Teavana.

There are so many new features I cannot name them all, but those are all pretty good reasons to buy the new iPhone 3GS., not to mention all the great iPhone 3Gs cases that ideal-case.com has for sale. Now all I need is the money. Well a friend of a friend wants an iPhone, so I am going to sale her mine, and than head to the Apple store this weekend, and pick myself up the new 3GS.
