Volunteer at Comic-Con 2010 Because: Free Admission
This is far and away going to be the best reason to volunteer at Comic Con is to gain free admission into the event. The price of individual days vary (usually traffic-heavy days like Friday and Saturday are more expensive than low-key days like Sunday) but it will always be cheaper to volunteer and get free admission. If you're on a tight budget, or simply looking for ways to save, then this should quickly emerge as the optimal option for you.
Volunteer at Comic-Con 2010 Because: It's Available
Comic-Con sells out quickly, and you may find that by the time you go to buy your membership, all your favorite days are already sold out. What to do? Well, one quick answer would be to check if volunteering is still available for that day (usually, volunteering fills up slower than paid registration does). It may not be your first choice, but if it comes down to volunteering or not going at all? It is definitely the way to go.
Volunteer at Comic-Con 2010 Because: You Get Free Swag
Not everyone gets free swag (unless you consider free registration) when they volunteer, but if you volunteer for all four days, you do get special-made swag. And free stuff is always a pretty sweet deal.
So, with all this great stuff... when shouldn't you volunteer? The answer:
Don't Volunteer at Comic-Con 2010 Because: It Takes Time
Volunteers pay their dues in a three hour shift. It's not that long a time, but assignments are passed out on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you get there too late, you may find that all the good shifts are taken, and the only thing available to you happens to be during the hours of your favorite, must-see-programming. If you buy your tickets, you don't have to worry about this. What peace of mind!
Don't Volunteer at Comic-Con 2010 Because: You're Rich!
Considering that all the best benefits of volunteering involve saving money and getting free study, don't worry about it if you find that you have money to burn (I'm guessing there aren't many of you in this position, but if you are there, more power to you). Leave the volunteering to others and enjoy your Comic Con International. There are obvious reasons why you should or should not volunteer at Comic Con 2010. Try to figure out what your needs are, what your wants are, and that should help you decide if you should volunteer or not.
For reference, Comic Con International 2010 is being held July 22-25 in San Diego. You should visit the Web site for even more details.
