Should Wal-Mart Get Involved in Banking?

Matt Remley
Over the past few years there has been tons of controversy over Wal-Mart. They seem to have created a monopoly of sorts, killing off tons of competition with every store they open. Now the question is being raised of whether or not Wal-Mart should get involved in banking, I believe that they should not be allowed to attempt this.

There is a Wal-Mart down the street from here, they have a hair style salon, a Sub-Way restaurant, a photo shop, and an ophthalmologist right in the front of the store. Of course thats in addition to the many sections of the Wal-Mart stores themselves.

How much more of this to we have to sit back and watch before something is done? Wal-Mart is becoming some what of another Microsoft, only worse. The only way I would agree to Wal-Mart getting into banking is if they stayed separated from it, but allowed a banking company like Bank of America to rent space in one of their stores.

Personally, I feel like I could trust a company like Bank of America more then Wal-Mart, the bank would be there to make its own money. I wouldn't be against companies like Paypal, or CommonWealth Bank renting space in Wal-Marts either. Then again, Paypal is strictly online money transferring at the moment.

Capital one, may also be a decent choice, anything as long as Wal-Mart isn't allowed to directly get into banking and effect it. After all, thats the last thing the world needs, one company gaining control over tons of money and putting banks out of business.

My best advice is to not shop at Wal-Mart if you can help it, I know a lot of people depend on Wal-Mart because they're simply lazy. However, think about how the world were turn out if we all keep spoiling Wal-Mart.

If Wal-Mart is allowed to get into the banking business, just imagine how it will effect banks that you have accounts at. Like Bank of America, CommonWealth Bank, US Bank, and so on. People seem to act like we need Wal-Mart, but I'm sure of you remember what life was like before it.

Think about it, do you want to allow Wal-Mart to keep growing like this? I sure don't, I would like my banking futures secure, and I would like for my children to live in a world that isn't ruled by Wal-Mart.
