The simplest way to answer this question , is with two more questions.
If we completely gave up fighting war, what would be the state of our nation? If we completely gave up fighting disease, what would be the state of our nation? If you can conceive the answers to both of these questions, and then compare them, then you will have the answer to the first question.
If we gave up on defending our nation, we would then be completely vulnerable to attack and in danger of being overrun by foreign powers; which is exactly what would happen. If we gave up on fighting disease, we would acquire many human casualties within, but we would at least still be in control of our nation and have our freedom; at least for a longer period of time than if we gave up fighting war.
I do not believe that there is a simple or right or wrong answer to this question. We must continue to defend our nation and help others in obtaining and sustaining freedom. But we must also protect our own nation internally by such means as fighting disease. We cannot choose one over the other; both are extremely warranted for national self-preservation. An issue we must also address, is the very real possibilities of biological warfare. There are foreign powers right now attempting to find ways to introduce fatal diseases into our nation. Thus, the important need for fighting and researching disease control.
But if given an ultimatum to quit fighting one or the other, I would definitely choose to abandon the war on disease. Although this would eventually destroy us as well, it would take a lot longer, and we would remain a politically free nation for a much longer period of time.
I have no knowledge on the financial differences in budgeting on war or disease fighting, but I would simply say that the manner in which are currently conducting the fight on both, is probably the best solution. We cannot let go of the fight on one or the other.
We cannot ignore disease and the death of our families and loved ones in our homeland, but we also definitely cannot ignore physical protection of our families and loved ones and our nation. We have to continue fighting against both in order to live.
North America, keep up the good work!.
