There are some cases of people who are excessively overweight and cannot exercise who need the surgery to get control of their appetite. This so that they can lose enough weight to begin an exercise program to regain their health. Do not be misled, the surgery will decrease the amount of food you can physically eat, but you will still need to eat sensibly, after the surgery, balanced nutrition is even more critical for your body.
All surgery has risks
Surgery in itself is dangerous, and when it goes into your internal organs the risk increases. Weight loss surgery may be well practiced but it is still surgery and all surgery has risks. The side effects will be pain and scarring, but some of the risks are infection, disability, and death.
Ask any surgeon what the risks of surgery are, and you will find that all of them agree that surgery is risky, and while a good surgeon will have a high success rate, there will still always be the risks.
Give weight loss programs a chance
All successful weight loss programs involve a two-part approach to your health. One is sensible and nutritious eating habits, the other is activity. Most list exercise as the word for activity, unfortunately most people think of exercise as calisthenics, and shudder at the prospect.
The activity could be as simple as taking walks in the park, going dancing, or swimming. It does not have to mean going to a gym or a spa to do workouts. While there are many good people at gyms, there are still a lot of people who are afraid of them, both the people and the gym concept. Do not worry about having to go to the gym; you can do your own activity.
All weight loss plans are lifestyle changes
When you finally admit you are too overweight to lead a healthy life, you begin to look for a weight loss plan. These choices can be as simple as changing your diet, to surgery. What many fail to consider is that weight loss, and keeping it off, is a lifestyle change.
Overeating and being inactive are learned behavior, and it is easy now, as you have done it for so long. Practice makes perfect. Going on a weight loss plan is changing your life, eating right, getting off your duff and doing things. It may seem hard at first as it is a new way of life, but if you stay with it long enough it will become easy. Practice makes perfect.
Consider weight loss surgery as a last resort, make sure you have really given your weight loss programs an honest effort, and have made the lifestyle changes of being active and eating right. If after a year or so of this and you are still not losing weight, then you may talk to your doctor about weight loss surgery.
