Show Biz Kids is the name of a great Steely Dan song, from the 1973 album Countdown To Ecstasy. Show Biz Kids is also the name of the top Steely Dan tribute band in New England. Now working as a nine piece unit, this Connecticut - based band consistently offers incredibly accurate renditions of Steely Dan's unique brand of music.
To hear and watch Show Biz Kids perform the music of Steely Dan is a fascinating experience. The musical prowess offered by the members of this musical group is remarkable. Like carrots, onions, hot peppers and other ingredients simmering in a pot of stew, the various members of this group meld together and form a very tasty musical amalgamation. These kids aren't kids either, each member of the group is a veteran performer with great musical chops.
Show Biz Kids' maintain an impressive roster of venues where they have performed. Three times, they have performed at the legendary B. B. King's Nightclub in New York City's Times Square. Other large venues where the 'kids' have performed are Showcase Live in Foxboro, Massachusetts, Bridge Street Live in Collinsville, Connecticut and The Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury, Massachusetts. In addition to these venues, this awesome Steely Dan cover band also regularly performs at various nightclubs throughout New England.
So far, I have had the opportunity to see and hear Show Biz Kids perform live three times. The first time was two years ago at Black Eyed Sally's , which is an excellent blues club and BBQ restaurant located in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. At the time, the band was working as a five piece act and they sounded very good. Black Eyed Sally's was packed and the crowd loved the band.
Since that night, I have watched and listened to Show Biz Kids perform live outdoors, twice. They were a major act at last year's public July 4th celebration in Hartford, Connecticut and they also presented a later rockin' live show at West Hartford's fashionable Blue Back Square.
A feast for the eyes as well as the ears, a live performance by Show Biz Kids is always exciting and memorable. Although the music of Steely Dan has provided part of the soundtrack for countless people's lives, many people have never seen a large ensemble of professional musicians performing incredibly accurate versions of classic Steely Dan songs.
After attending three live performances by Show Biz Kids, I definitely like their version of "My Old School" (c) better than the original, by Steely Dan. Great vocals and instrumentation, including some incendiary guitar work by Mike DeVito and right on drumming by Kevin Chouinard propel this song into a different stratosphere than the one misters Fagen and Becker launched it from.
Their version of "Black Friday" (c) is phenonemal, but to tell the truth, every song that I've heard Show Biz Kids play has been very good. It was interesting to watch as people from babies to senior citizens responded positively to the band's renditions of Steely Dan songs at the outdoor events where I saw and heard the band.
Show Biz Kids is comprised of top - rate musicians who possess many years of experience playing music professionally. The members of Show Biz Kids are as follows:
- Doug Kupper..Vocals, Guitar
- Bill Holloman ..Vocals, keys, brass
- Michael DeVito..Vocals, Guitar
- Gary Blu..Vocals, flute
- Glenn Jubilee..Vocals, Bass
- Bob Casinghino..Vocals, keyboard
- Kevin Chouinard..Drums
- Stacey Dyer..Vocals

At live performances by Show Biz Kids, virtually note perfect renditions of Steely Dan songs are presented one right after the other with seamless precision. Great vocal harmonies and first class musicianship offered by members of this ensemble regularly draw listeners to dance floors and set toes to tapping everywhere they perform.
No matter where they are performing, the members of Show Biz Kids always provide amazingly authentic re-creations of songs from the Steely Dan songbook. If you are a Steely Dan fan and become aware of an upcoming performance by Show Biz Kids in your area, I highly recommend catching the show. Chances are, you'll be glad you decided to reel in the years with this top rate musical group.
