Showboat Casino in Atlantic City: A Review

I stayed at the Showboat in Atlantic City last summer. It is located on Atlantic Avenue, and is right on the beach. The boardwalk connects it to all the other casinos except The Borgata and Harrah's which are across town. The Showboat is a smaller place then most of the other casinos and it connects to the Taj Mahal, which is next door to it.

There is a full complement of slot machines and table games. There are bars all over the place, and you can play games while sitting at the bar and getting "free drinks" for playing. You also get free drinks at the poker table or playing any game in the casino. This is one of my favorite things about the casino, and the only thing you really have to do to keep on getting free drinks is to keep playing and tip the waitresses.

The black jack tables are the black jack tables and if you keep going to this casino long enough you'll see all the usual familiar faces at the black jack tables and the poker tables for that matter. I haven't played much black jack here, but I did win $100 dollars. There are tables with $5 dollar minimum bets, but I played $25. There are also the usual "table games" here like three card poker and all kinds of variations of black jack.

The poker room is actually sub-par and the neighboring Taj Mahal poker room is definitely the better poker room and one of the best on the strip. Maybe the fact that the Taj is next door has something to do with the fact that there is barely ever anybody in this poker room. I lost $260 dollars in this poker room, probably because everybody there knows each other and not many new players go there.

Rooms are about $50 for a standard room, you can get a room that overlooks the ocean, but have to ask specifically for it. One good thing about the Showboat is that you can't ride the elevator to the rooms unless you have a room key to slide in the elevator before you go up. This keeps the unwanted and shady characters out of the hotel section. Other casinos do not have this feature. The room was clean and comfortable, the room service menu was expensive.

In conclusion, the Showboat is a nice place to stay and gamble, but if your going to play poker go to the neighboring Taj Mahal poker room because there are more poker players there and higher limits if you are looking for them.
