Shrek Forever After Movie Preview and Exploration

What to Expect in Shrek Forever After

Shrek Forever After is hitting theaters on May 21, 2010 according to imdb.com, and this film certainly seems like it is going to firmly wrap up the Shrek universe in a manner that will not easily lend itself to further recreation.

Shrek Forever After will feature the return of Mike Myers as the voice of Shrek, Eddie Murphy as the voice of Donkey, Cameron Diaz as the voice of Princess Fiona, and Antonia Banderas as the voice of Puss N Boots as well as the return of the original voice actors and actresses of many secondary characters. The main new star of the film is going to be Walt Dohrn as the voice of Rumpelstiltskin.

The official movie trailers for Shrek Forever After are viewable on Shrek.com and offer a somewhat grim look at the Shrek universe. In a moment of weakness, Shrek expresses a genuine desire to actually feel like a real ogre again, and Rumpelstiltskin is able to grant him this wish, or so it would seem. However, what really happens to Shrek is that he ends up in an alternate version of Far, Far Away that features his family and friends in situations he would never have imagined.

In the trailer for the film, Donkey, Shrek's companion since the very first Shrek film, does not even recognize him! Puss N Boots who has been a compatriot since Shrek 2 has become a fat and complacent cat instead of the sleek fighting machine he once was. He is even too lazy to catch a mouse not more than one foot away drinking cream out of his cream bowl! Perhaps worst of all is the fact that Fiona is an ogre who is plastered all over "Wanted" posters visible on every tree in the alternate Far, Far Away and is the leader of a band of rebel ogres.

Naturally, this is not what Shrek had in mind when he wanted to feel like an ogre again, and he sets out to undo the horrible trick played on him. To do this, Shrek has to find Fiona and make her fall in love with him again and kiss him before the sun goes down 24 hours after the alternate reality was presented to Shrek - a deadline not at all unlike many classic fairytale stories.

While it is almost a given that Shrek will end up saving the day just in time, the need to recreate these relationships with Fiona, Donkey, and Puss N Boots should create a lot of funny and unique dialogue as well as provide a few more touching moment as well. Shrek Forever After looks like it could be a great bookend to the original Shrek movie and the perfect closer for the franchise.
